    Audi 1.8 20v 1996

Wont idle properly until fully warmed through even then it wavers, any thoughts, cheap ones. The car is 12 and not worth a hill of beans at this point (its had low end knock for a while).

    Lambda Sensor/

That's what's been happening with my 106gti and that's the cause anyway.
    might be the same.

I had a combination of things go wrong with my polo when I had her. Low idle and would stall at lights etc. Lambada sensor and coil pack where identified and where changed, car was ticking over nicely after that.

Okay I think I've spotted the problem - coolant sensor. I ran it stationary this morning until warmed through and the idle picked up to a steady 900

Annoyingly that sensor was replaced only two and half years ago.

I had same problem with 96 Ibiza.. The part under the air filter was clogged up with grease.. (the part where if you press the accelerator, the pipe opens up). Cleaned it and the car went from idling at bout 600 and stalling to idling at 1000 and runnin perfect..

    might be relevent for you
