Just looking for a bit of help here. Moved house and in the new house was a UPC box. It has a card but is not working. Im just wondering whether its possible to get any freeview channels with this?

If this isn't available can I tune in the freeview channels on a normal television (i.e. get BBC/UTV etc?)

I really have no clue with this at all

    Cheers

    1. Nothing to do with satellite or freeview
    2. All UPC equipment belongs to UPC

They will probably wake up sometime and look for the box back if no bill is paid or no active account in the house.
Trying to connect to cable free would,I'd imagine, be illegal and they could probably prosecute you for it.
If no payment they will probably disconnect you at the outside distributor box and make an extra charge for reconnection if required.

They sometimes will bill you for time till when you moved in if you are connected and don't write and get disconnected.

There is no free cable whatsoever.

A Sky satellite box belongs to the subscriber from day one and can be used for Free satellite. A Cable box belongs to the cable operator and must be returned or you can be liable for cost of box or service for duration of time you had the box.

OK cheers for that lads, will just leave well alone then.

Although surely it's nothing to do with me to ensure they get the box back? It's not my fault it was just left behind etc so i have no legal obligation to give them it back!

Tough one to call. It is technically their property but there is no legal obligation for you to inconvenience yourself in order to get it back to them. Just hand it over if someone calls to the door looking for it. Don't try and connect it up, their claim to compensation hinges on your usage of their service, not possession of the box.

You have no duty of care with respect to the box, but if they call to the door looking for it and you refuse to give it then you are technically in possition of stolen equipement.
