    Hi

i have a Sony Z4500, I am receiving DTT from Spur Hill. But i cannot receive the EPG. It's just blank.
The Teletext works fine (fancy type)

I had the TV set up as UK, i have reset it as Ireland and i still dont get the epg, so i put it back to UK.

I have tried using Guide+ and Sony guide.. no joy

    Any suggestions ??

ps. i've read http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055229230 but still no luck

Is there epg data being transmitted from spur hill ??

I have the same issue with my W4000

This happened a few months ago also but was fixed. This has something to do with changes RTE are making probably as part of testing.

This is all normal as part of the engineering tests and will be fixed in the coming weeks I am sure.

No EPG for me either on a KDL40W4000. Not so bad as the digital text is quite fast

are we doing something wrong.. or is RTE doing something wrong ?

Does anyone have any info on when this problem will be fixed

    See my post (#138) http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...php?p=59401133

This may explain why you're not getting EPG -(it's there but your receiver may be picky with the format).

DVBViewer (which is a PC application) doesn't pick the EPG data up correctly unless I force the Original Network ID (ONID). The one it picks up from the datastream is not consistent. You won't have that option in a set-top box or in a TV receiver.

Maybe it's time to nudge the powers that be in RTENL? Or do we leave it to work out in the fullness of time?

DVBViewer currently shows the network ID as 8564. What should this be? I am receiving from Mt. Leinster. (This is the last step for the HTPC SAT/DTT combo!)

    Thanks!

12801 is the ONID I see from the Greystones relay. Try putting that into RTE1 and see if you pick up the EPG. If that works you can put it into the remaining TV and radio channels.
It's not a very satisfactory solution and you will lose the setting if you re-scan the mux. If RTENL fix the problem, then you have to re-scan. The Transedit utility is very useful for analysing the data stream. You should have this if you bought DVBviewer Pro.

It's nothing to do with RTENL. Once the Transmitters, feed cables, Aerials and backhaul is all fine then Donneybrook actual RTE will feed real EPG and TS info.

Only worry if it's like this after public launch. At the minute they won't care.

I assumed that RTE would originate the EPG info as such, but I thought maybe the networks (as in telecommunications) division might have some responsibility for coding up the IDs and putting on transmitter-specific data.
Is there an overview somewhere of who does what with the digital data? I agree with you that RTE etc. are probably not overly interested in feedback for a service that's just testing, but it would be useful to have a line of contact with someone in their technical department so that we could feed back reception reports and comment. The BBC HD techs are very good at interacting with UK bulletin boards and it means that people know their comments are being taken on board. Might cut down on some of the endless repetition of "such and such a channel is down/up" "EPG is/is not working" reports, if we could post some hard information and timelines perhaps? Though, in this current climate, the whole live date could be "long-fingered", maybe....

Why shouldnt they be interested in fixing this? They have no obligation to fix it but I would think if you are testing something you would like to test it working not test it broken. Otherwise whats the point? They are not just testing transmitters here, they are testing the entire PSB DTT service.

I thought that too - the purpose of testing is to get things right, but maybe the datastream testing is for a later phase and at the moment the priority is to get the broadcast channels and equipment up and running, perhaps?
It's all a bit "smoke and mirrors" anyway - information from RTE and Dept of Communications on the digital rollout could be improved!

    12801 worked perfectly.

Will download TransEdit - so many small downloads on DVBViewer makes is difficult to know what does what! Great value for money though!!

epg working here for the first time today from Cairn Hill. I think rte must have fixed whatever the problem was. only thing is they removed tg4 at the same time!

EPG working perfectly from Mullaghanish today also, now & next, programme info, 7 days ahead etc. TG4 replaced by test card also.Looks like the same testing takes place from each transmitter.

Nice to have the EPG back

Yes, reconfigured my Sony back to UK from setup. Full EPG and digital teletext. Its starting to look like a full service!!

EPG from sSpur Hill as well

I went into Digital settings -> Technical Info -> EPG
Selected Sony Guide, then select Guide+. Run thru the Guide + Set up.. and hey presto..

    7 day epg

    :)

Having checked the data streams, I can confirm that the Original Network ID (ONID) settings are now consistent. That is why the EPG is now working for those TV receivers (and DVBviewer) that have had problems over the past couple or three weeks. If yours is not working at the moment, try a rescan.

EPG is working for me here but some characters are not coming up properly, mostly those with fadas. Programme information is also blosky with some programmes containing lots of extra text as if it is the code for Digiguide put on instead as it contains cast names and other details that aren't usually included in the EPG due to the small number of lines available for descriptions...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,038 ✭✭✭slegs

I think that is your receiver. On my Mvision fadas and TG4 are perfect. My Sony TV on the otehr hand can't handle fadas.

Might be better if they stopped using fadas? Our Panasonic TV doesn't support them either. Left with things like "RT News" in the list.

Strangely RTÉ News shows up fine, it was Exposé that came up with the errors. And the descriptions of some programmes were all wrong with lots of code style text that viewers are not supposed to see.

Does anyone have any EPG beyond Saturday night? Mine runs out at about 1am Sunday morning on the TV channels. (Radio keeps going!)

Hmm, I picked up an LG 50PG4500 a few weks ago. I'm getting DTT on Ch 47 and 54 loud and clear, but the EPG is not working. It just says 'No Information'. Tried a rescan and a complete factory reset.

Mind you, the only 'Countries' it has on the DTT setup menu are France, Italy and Slovenia: are there different EPG standards, and might I be hosed in this department?

Not a big loss, as the investment was for Freesat, Bluray and PS3 mainly. The DTT is a bonus.

EPG is a bit iffy at the moment. RTENL seem to be testing some changes as it has gone again on two of my boxes from MT Leinster (Sony, Darkbox). Still there on my MVision though. I expect it will work fine on yuor LG in time once they settle things down.

Have had to change Network ID back to 8564 on DVBViewer. RTE keeping us on our toes methinks!!
