VERY disappointed ,VERY ugly in the rear view mirror-all I could think of was that it looked like a google eyed owl or something ...

Rear three quarter/shoulder angle looks like a bland Mitsubishi Colt 3dr, which aint a good thing either....The car has some nice-ish angles and design features but all in all ugliest Alfa for a long time ?Coincidentally saw an even more ugly brand new little Kia -again in rear view mirror -the whole headlights as eyes thing is not working for a lot of newer cars!

Alfa's usually take a bit of time to wear in their looks I've found; I'll hold off judgement until a year or so away.

I think it's a little beaut of a car! And just wait for the MiTo GTA....

Quite ugly indeed, I'm not sure this will work for Alfa... I think they start at 19k here which is expensive and could be spent much better. This car could have done better 18 months ago but the market has changed.

Yeah fair enough MYOB but you will notice it is almost impossible to see a 'full frontal'(!) pic of this car as it almost literally IS an owl from head on .Not a hawk ,eagle etc ...owl!I have a lot more time for italian cars than most ,heck I even think the Panda 100bhp is desirable with but this little Alfa is never going to be the new Alfasud looking like this.Just wait until one approaches you from behind on the motorway!

qz that picture looks NOTHING like the standard production car (probably had a few extras-chrome rings around round brake lights were nice /higher spec in fairness) I saw and realistically the GTA will cost a bomb.

Looks nice there but that pic makes it look better than it is actually viewed 'in the flesh'

    I lol'd at the owl :D

Granted the GTA is removed from the regular MiTO, I still think it's a cracking looking car though. (Although I concede the owlishness!)

I saw one a couple of months ago when abroad on the continent & it certainly was a head turner - I only caught the Alfa badge so had to check the interweb to see what the new Alfa model was. The rear is probably better than the front...

I see it as a cynical marketing attempt to cash in on some of the success seen with other cars like the MINI and FIAT 500. It is a very poorly executed car, which has just had all the styling of the 8C supercar shamelessly grafted onto a Punto platform. It just doesn't work at all.

Believe it or not it looks even more 'owlish' when viewed from lower down head on -ie in rear view mirror .And as if that wasnt bad enough ,lights being on even adds to the effect!!!

There are a couple of black ones in Airton this week & they look great. I did see about ten/fifteen silver ones in convoy in Turin pre launch & they didn't look as good. Colour will play a big part in the appeal of this car...

I was going to say the silver ones might look better but I have yet to see one

I've seen one recently and it is very eye catching! Not my type of car at all but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's pig ugly! I don't like most new cars anyhow - no angles and too many curves.

28 bought already in first 2 months

Sit inside one and you will be blown away

Had a look over a black one on Friday; interior as stated is fantastic. Overall impact is great from almost every angle but I'm still not convinced about those headlights.

I was very disappointed when I saw it in real life. As people have said, I think they are trying to squash the features of a much bigger car into a smaller one, and I don't think it scales down well.

The first time I saw a 156 and 147 I was immediately impressed. I can't see the MiTo growing on me.

Hey all, I'm a big fiat and alfa fan. I've the grande punto right now and while it's quite nice looking (well, I think so...) there's absolutely zero poke whatsoever. You need to be travelling downhill with a tailwind to overtake...

...so was thinking of getting a MiTo. I actually like the look of it. I know, bit strange looking, but sue me, I think it looks well.

What should I be paying in Jan 2010 for one? Any ideas?

    Cheers.

No sure about prices. But I had one on loan for a week & it was fantastic - drove like a rocket...

It was a 155bhp 1.4, with full leather, Blue & Me and every other option thinkable... So much fun to drive & looked slick in black.

Cheers man, heartless b*stard that I am I'd love to get one cheap from someone who just has to get rid of it. Dying for something that's a bit of craic to drive. Grande Punto is great in a lot of ways, but there's is absolutely nothing happeng from 1st to 3rd gear. I'm not a boy racer, but even just to be able to zip around a corner or whatever.

Would like to get maybe €5-6k back on my 06 grande punto and add €8k on top of that to get an 08 MiTo.

You could get a tidy 1.8TS 156 for €2-3k, I've one and it's addictive :o If you don't mind going back in the years that is...

That's the one I'd pick. It's about €25k without options. That's a lot cheaper than a MINI Cooper S, but more expensive than the fastest 500 with the same engine, although I don't think that's available here (yet).

Saw hundreds of these things in Milan a few months ago, remember thinking they didnt make a good transition between the publicity shots and the actual thing in real life.

    Ugly ugly car.

That's way too expensive. I don't believe for a moment that is an official FIAT price - looks like the dealer is trying to make a hyper profit there
