New Sky+HD EPG & Software to commence rolling out this week

The long awaited HD EPG should be finally here on tuesday for people who have Thomson Sky+HD boxes. (Only the ones without component video outputs)

Looks like it'll be a worthy update. Especially the better organisation within the planner.

Hope it's not too buggy, major updates like this tend to be full of them.

Having said that, they seem to have spent an age testing it.

Yeah, I got the new EPG this morning. Didn't get much time to use it as I had to get to work

I got mine last night too. It will take some getting used to. I like the way it stacks episodes like the Humax HDR.

I got it thismorning too and it's a good bit different alright.

It will take some getting used to, especially navigating around it.

I like the way the small TV screen can be removed/replaced to give you more channels on one page view in the guide, but at least there's no more of that terrible EPG background music.

The now/next banner is greatly improved and gives info on all shows regardless what channel or show you are watching. You can also do series link from the nox/next banner too without going near the planner.

My HD box is the Thomson without the component connections. There is an article on digital spy which states that the 4E300E version of the Thomson boxes were the models to receive the new update.

Providing you have model no:4E300E (Check underside of box) A forced update should get it for you.

Woke up to this this morning too. My box kept knocking off yesterday, I wonder was this the reason.

I really like the new Series Stack. It's great for searching too. For example if you're looking for a show that you know has the word Lost in it, you won't have to trawl through a load of Lost episodes to find it.

I'll definitely be using the series link a lot more now that it will ask me if I want to use it.

Also much better that you don't have to go into the TV guide to get info on later programmes. Not that it's as much of a hinderence to go into the TV guide anymore. One press of the Back Up button and the mini screen turns big. No blue screen.

I don't think this is correct. I read complicated stuff on digital spy that if you do a forced update you will go to the end of the queue and you won't get it until all boxes are upgraded.

I have a 4E3011 box but havent gotten the update. Should I do the forced update? I'm not good at waiting!:D

Looks like the channel won't change when using Up/Down+Select if the program isn't yet started. The Reminder gets set instead. On RTE2 now, Whale Rider is scheduled but the football is on so the channel number must be entered. Same with The Beach/Ross Kemp on SKY2. Don't have Favourite Channels set up, wonder if it's the same for that.

I doubt that a forced update will get it for you. Sky have sent out user guides for the new EPG, we received ours yesterday. You should receive this in the post before you get the download. On the back of the user guide there's a link to a web page showing a demo of the new guide.

If by turn it off you mean standby that makes no odds as your box is never really 'off' unless you unplug it. In standby mode it's still receiving info from the satellites and will get the update.

My box is displaying "Software Update" and "do not disconnect from either power or satellite" "will take up to 10 minutes" but it is displaying that since about 2 hours now.

Should I continue to wait or take a chance and disconnect it from power hoping for the best?

I have a Sky HD box(Bought on eBay 2 years ago)but don't and never have subscribed to SKY HD. I just have normal Sky plus etc. Will my EPG get the upgrade at some stage automatically or do I need to subscribe to SKY HD.

Yes, it will, software and EPG upgrades have nothing to do with subs, a box without a card will update to the same EPG.

How did you fare out?

Did it have to be plugged out in the end?

I unplugged/replugged after 3 hours just to be greeted to the same message, I left it for another 2 hours in which I saw several restarts happening.

After the machine was not doing anything (blank screen, normal lights) I put it on again and I had my old EPG with all recordings still in tacts.

You do know you could switch the music off ? I've never had it on on any of my units.

Bloody lucky if you ask me, failed firmware updates can cause a box to not work at all!!

BTW New firmware is not available on the forced update until it has been rolled out completely.

The new firmware is being activated in stages, my Thomson (original Day 1) box received an update overnight last Tuesday (I know because the fan was running full tilt:eek: and it was on the customer channel) but has not activated yet. I understand that SKY are minimising the impact by activating by model number range. There's no point in forcing an update.

We got the update this week as well. My mum is finding it impossible to read it, even with her glasses on Anyone else who has vision impairement felt the same?

Also, anyone know how you do a Planner Rebuild with this new EPG? Don't need to, but kinda curious as to how you do it.

Component is the analogue version of HDMI connections.

I have a component hd box, I noticed this morning the epg had reset itself to the sky customer page, maybe the new epg has been downloaded during the night but they have not implemented it yet.

anyone find there new tv guide slow reacting. i find even changing the channel is slow. like i'll have the number of the channel down and it would take about 2 seconds for it to trun over. really not happy with it. it's even hard to read the writing
