Our family owns 30 acres and hunters constantly go through our land. Can you hunt without asking our permission first?

Have you talked to these people?
If you don't know them contact the local gun club committee and ask their members are they involved.
Gun club members are reasonable and if want your land off-limits then the members will be advised. Shouldn't be a problem at all

For others trespassing, this is for the local gardai. It's probably been happening the locality and it's not just your land. So go to the local station.
If they won't do anything, then escalate it upwards.

These guys are unlikely to be members of any gun club.

Trespassing is a civil matter and the Gardaí have no powers in that regard. You need to talk to a solicitor.

OK. First off, with my mod hat on, please read the charter, specifically this bit:
This is a hunting forum so if you're anti-hunting, don't post and don't read any posts; you are going to be offended. Any muppetry will result in a temp or perm ban.

If anyone turns this into a hunters-are-murderers-no-you're-a-weird-beard-hippy argument they'll get a permanent ban that will only be lifted if they apologise. To make this perfectly clear, Denerick, no more of the "barbaric" comments. To everyone else: respond to those comments in any way and I will be exceedingly harsh with you.

Now, with that unpleasantness out of the way:

Denerick, just call the Gardai. If they're on your land, hunting without permission they're breaking the law.

If they're hunting on land without permission they're in breach of the Wildlife Act which is AFAIK a criminal matter.

Yes indeed, but unless they are caught red handed it will be difficult to prove anything.

This happens everywhere where I'm from. Hunters tresspass at will because for the most part the owners either don't care or its just normal practise for this to happen. Admittedly, it has always been normal for hunters to wander at will in our area, we've never been asked permission but I always this to be extremely objectionable.

Only on topics like this. If you have an issue with it take it up with me and the other mods by PM or with the SMods in Helpdesk.

Only when you stomp all over the explicit rules in the charter so heavily.

In a heavily moderated forum like Politics you'd have had your thread deleted and your account banned from the forum for at least a year, if not permanently.

Do you have notices up ?

What's the story on land poisoned signs ?

    Is CCTV an option ?
Lidl had a standalone security thing that saved images to an SD card , it might be possible to power one from a very large battery

Its more of a cultural thing. The hunters in my county neither bother with irrelevancies such as asking permission and don't care (And probably laugh) about our moral objections. Basically, big country men with guns from a border area kill animals on our land. When I was younger I used to taunt them, call them well... Bad names, my dad used to give out to me for doing it. Its a cultural thing, he didn't mind them doing that but it has always drove me crazy. Frankly I'll never understand someone killing for pleasure anyway, but when people tresspass and do this activity on our land its a bloody disgrace. My elderly father doesn't care now and never has, but anytime I call back home on a sunday or whatever you sometimes hear those bloody hounds and see the hunters cutting across our fields in the back.

Denerick, just to be clear, the land is your fathers, who doesn't object to hunting?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,488 ✭✭✭Denerick

he doesn't object perse, but has never on any occassion been asked permission = trespassing.

If it's not your land, that's not your call, it's his. Which turns your original post from having a legitimate complaint within it to being an exercise in trolling. Thread closed and locked. Bring this up in here again and it'll be a ban.
