Disused railway line

Does the ownership of disused railway lines ( in this case, since the 70s ) automatically revert to the landowner on whose land the line passes through? Or does one have to follow legal channels to reclaim it? Your opinions would be appreciated.

Disused lines are still the property of the State.

Check with Irish Rail Head Office - the line may have been sold on.

In some cases the sale while for small money contained covenants binding the purchaser to keep fences and drains in good condition.
