I haven't ventured in here for sometime but I have a wondering as to the story with the nct on cars, I haven't had one for over a year and nobody has ever batted an eyelid (over 40 checkpoints and at least 15 random stops), what reminded me was I was stopped tonight again and discs checked etc, nct out for ages and not a word!
And before i get bashed, the last nct was done less than two years ago, it was only valid for a few months as the car was imported so it is still road worthy! :D Just haven't got round to renewing it

You can still be fined for not having one.

As for your own car being roadworthy, just because a vehicle displays a valid NCT disc, that is not a guarantee a vehicle actually is roadworthy. A person can drive out of the garage with a brand new NCT disc & two days later something might happen to the vehicle that would make it defective, therefore not roadworthy.

Where was your car imported from? If it is the UK then they are MOT'd every year. The crux here is you are driving a car without a valid NCT disc displayed and can get stuck on for it, why the discretion? I can't answer that only the officer at the time can (but I'm sure you don't want to be engaging that question to them :pac:).

I believe that we can now seize vehicles under section 41 for not being nct'd. It was mentioned in an in-service class recently to us.

It was inserted by S19 RTA 06 "by inserting after paragraph (c) the following:
    (d) the vehicle is, or a member of the Garda Siochana is of the opinion that the vehicle is, being so used in contravention of section 18(1) of the Principal Act" http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/2006/en/act/pub/0023/sec0019.html#id1151527007.25
Section 19 of the Principal Act:

I was just wondering, not looking for tickets! its just that when checking discs the nct was never even glanced at so far, just doesn't seem to be cared about, I know people who never bothered getting one in the first place and just nothing was said!

Oh and norrie1001 I cant see that happening in the near future as there just is not space for all the cars! crap i know guards who dont have one!

Also after reading that link my car has full proof of passing a test to prove it is roadworthy within the last two years, just the expiry date has passed as it was a short one! but it doesn't mention that?
