Refund from Revenue

Not really if this is the right fora, but here goes.

Today I recieved a good sum of money into my bank account from Revenue.

I am married, but we are taxed as single people.

Applied for a balancing P21 on Tuesday and put the rest of my earnings for 2009 ( I changed jobs) and hubbies.

Now my earinings are correct on ROS, but Hubbies are not. ( They are way less that he actually earned)

So I think this is where the large refund came. What do I do? Do I wait until all his earnings have been upped and see what happens or do I ring revenue and see if it is correct?

Not too sure what yer sayin here about putting your 2009 earnings up on ROS. You couldn't know what yer final 2009 earnings will be yet.

Anyway, if Revenue have issued you a refund in error, my advice would be to inform them straight away and not to spend the money!! Assuming that your hubbie is a paye taxpayer and not self employed, they will have a record of what he earned (P35 Return from his employer) and they will come looking for the money eventually.

I'm sure the OP means 2008- balancing statements are only issued retrospectively (you can apply for an amended tax certificate for the current year though).

OP- if its definitely wrong- query it, and make certain you don't spend the money- as you will have to pay it back immediately when it gets sorted. You're better off getting it sorted sooner rather than later.
