Help: recording sounds from VST in Ableton, can't get this to work

    Hello

I hope someone can help me with this. I can't figure it out!

    1. I open Ableton
    2. I click on "Plug-in Devices" and select "CS-80V".
    3. The CS-80V opens.
    4. If I play sounds on the CS-80V I can see Ableton is recognising them as the mixer is displaying the relevant graphics.
    5. I hit record and start playing. Nothing from the CS-80V records. I hit record + play and start playing. Again, nothing from the CS-80V records.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here?!

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks!

Loaded up Ableton 7 there with a Jupiter 8.

Hit record on the top Menu bar.

Then hit Play on the top Menu bar.

Hitting Record just "primes" it by the looks.. Everything records ok after that.

Use the Tab keys to get into the arrange page.

Hope that works for you. :pac:

Thanks for the reply. Yeah that sounds exactly like what I'm doing but it is not working.

I have tried using a different VST and I'm getting the same problem.

I can see Ableton is picking up the sounds as the equilizer graphic moves when I play something on the VST keyboard, and when I record I can see on the arranger page it is recording something, but when I play the recording there is nothing there, just silence. I can also see there are no sound waves (sorry don't know the term) if I double click the VST recording I just did.

So I'm thinking it must be an Ableton setting I am missing?

Note I can record songs using samples from the library no problem. For example, if I add some library samples, and play something on the VST while recording, only the samples will play back when I listen to it.

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks

I've made a little bit of progress.

If I drag a drum clip onto the VST track and press play, I can see the drum clip plays on the VST, i.e. the keys on the VST move by themselves. If I press record the sounds coming out of the VST successfully record, but if I press other keys on the VST keyboard during the recording the keys I press don't get recorded!

    Any ideas?!

    Thats mad..

I dunno.. I'll have another look at it.

I tried to get it not to work.. It happens to me when the monitor is selected on IN. You can hear it & see it.. but no recording.

Make sure the monitor is on Auto not IN.

Track needs to be primed also.

    Fingers crossed Mate! :pac:

Thanks for that. I think I am doing everything right but still nothing is recording.

If you have a look at the attached image you will see I am pressing a key on the VST but no wave forms are appearing.

Does everything in the image look correct to you?

Thanks a million for your help. :)

Why not call the Ableton Support Line, that's what they're there for?

You'll have access to an expert who can talk you through your issue, most likely in no time.

    Cool..

You nearly have it working I think..

Do everything that you are doing - but also hit the record button in the top transport bar.

You have the track primed correctly from the pic & the monitoring options done right.. just hit the record button - then play & away you go.

You might want to go into preferences afterwards & select a count in.

Unfortunately hitting the record button at the top makes no difference...

I have a small workaround which is to draw the notes in the midi note editor. Not ideal but at least it records!

Thanks for all your help, it's much appreciated.

Just to make sure.. Because your pic shows you recording in the clip.

Are you hitting both these buttons?

    1. shows the buttons.

    2. is the recording on the arrange page. Delete the clip for now.
