    Hi there,

I posted something similar about his a few months ago, in which case I was told by a poster that there was no difference between the two. But yesterday I received an email to say that an upgrade was available to get a E160G (for 40 quid). I've googled and it says the following on one website:

    Improvement of E160G vs E220

    * Half the size of E220
    * USB Stick type, therefor no USB Cable required!
    * 2 in 1 function, modem + thumb drive
    * Better signal reception with latest Qualcomm (USA) Chipset
    * Support external antenna to further boost signal reception
    * Has proven itself to perform slightly faster than E220!!!

Has anyone upgraded yet, if so is it worth the hassle. Would be handy if I could keep one as backup, or could be used on my laptop when I am away.

    Only significant differences are:
    1) Doesn't usually need Y cable to 2x USB (E220 does)
    2) External aerial (none on e220)

Nothing else is significant. It may work better with a USB extension cable. Less likely to get broken, less interference from laptop and easier to position for better signal.

I would say that's a highly dubious statement for them to be making.

Anyway, the only thing that will come from an upgrade, is you'll be locked in for another 12 months.

My E220 gives me 7.6Mbps in a lot of places. Nothing at all wrong with it, and the fact that it's on a cable can actually be a positive, i.e. get it closer to a window for improved reception, sometimes.

Just to clarify, this was not from Three's website or documentation. I found this on another site selling the device.

That's very true, was in the small print at the bottom. Mine is working away grand. And the extra half gig a month is great.

Ambassador, with this extra Half Gig you are really spoiling us!

sorry I meant to say 5 gig, not half. It's up from 10 gig to 15 gig, and I think that they took the hit on the VAT increase as well.
