This month, we are proud to present three outstanding Northern Irish bands – Kowalski from Bangor and a duo of fresh new Belfast bands in Yes Cadets and Before Machines. As ever, the Ball Room plays host to OMGWTFDISCO, with FAUX DJs manning the decks. The Bunker Club will continue to be the staple of Lavery’s, with Gregz McCann guaranteeing enough dancefloor action to fell an elephant. The times will be good.

    KOWALSKI
This Bangor foursome are no strangers to the bars and clubs of Northern Ireland, but neither are they afraid to spread their wings. They recently celebrated four years together, time that has seen them tour far and wide and share stages with Snow Patrol – supporting them at their huge Ward Park, Bangor gig – and The Zutons at last year’s Belsonic Festival. While their mellifluous indie-pop draws on the likes of Death Cab For Cutie and Grandaddy, a love for old synths means things also have a tendency to go gently disco. This could be a big year for them.

    YES CADETS
Following the demise of The Elliots, singer Alan Haslam and drummer Lisa Mageean got together and, pretty much immediately, started again. Yes Cadets is the result, a band that takes all the indie exuberance of their old band and adds a good splash of tangy electronic juice. It’s a punky, poppy explosion of melodic energy and lyrical barbs, and we’re expecting quite a show.

    BEFORE MACHINES
With ears firmly trained on the American Nineties underground, Before Machine have emerged from the in-hiatus The Remains of Youth with something raw, honest and exhilarating. Their lo-fi art rock brings to mind the likes of Q And Not U, Cursive and Fugazi. They’ve not been going long, but already they are making waves and for good reason – Before Machines already sound fully formed and ready for a proper assault on hearts and minds. Don’t miss them.
