Food Memories

Was thinking about this this morning. When I were a lad (que violins) we barely had a pot to piss in, poor working class family (we didn't know that as kids of course as everybody else was in the same boat) of eleven kids (my parents were very good catholics :p ) Anyhoo that meant that my ma (sainted woman that she is) had to be very inventive when it came to feeding us and everything had to be stretched, a couple of examples of this came to mind and I was wondering what other culinary delights do people remember from the innocent days of their youth!

The ones that came to me were, mince mixed with beans, to this day I still do this as I love the taste and it brings back warm and fuzzy memories. The other was you make a plain jam sandwidch, cut it into quarters, lightly batter it, then fry it on the pan for a couple of minutes, viola! Home made doughnuts!

    Care to share yours....?

I remember the tomato ketchup sandwiches my Granny used to make me...

Half of me would like to make one right now, the other half is afraid it'd be disgusting and ruin my childhood memory.

Ooooh yeah rubbery breaded turkey burgers with weird cheese sauce under the breadcrumbs in a bun with loads of tomato sauce.

    And frozen pizza microwaved!

My granny used to fry the cabbage and it actually tasted good!

"Savoury Mince" and potatoes... I have no idea what was in this concoction but i think it may have been mince, carrots and bisto.

Followed with ambrosia creamed rice and jam of course!

Oh and I just remembered... apple sandwiches!

    Those Gino Ginelli mini pizzas.
    Semolina.
Porridge out of a pot not the microwave, with the crusty bits!
    Edible paper.
    Sherbert dib dabs.
