Getting motor tax for a car recently bought in the north

Hi. I'm a noob here. So hoping u guys can help me.

I bought my first car, a ford fiesta last thursday in a private sale up up north. My dad drove it back down south and I am now awaiting certificate of permanent export from the motor office up north which has to accompany the application for VRT. Apparently I'm going to be waiting up to four weeks for the certificate. In the meantime, I've been getting quotes from insurance companies. However I can't apply for motor tax or an NCT test as I haven't got any irish car plates, meaning legally I can't go on the road which is frustrating indeed. Is there any way around this?
Another issue (which isnt as pressing as the one above)-upon driving out of the sellers premises (he owns a massive shop), I switched on the CD player, only to be required to enter a code. I went back into the shop and told his employee (the one who handled the sale as the owner was out) about it. He said he would tell his boss about it and get him to text me the code. However, I never heard from him so I've texted him(the boss) twice asking for it but he has only replied once on tuesday to say that he would have it for me the next day. It seems as if he doesn't have it and is fobbing me off. I'm gonna be more persistant about it and text him again later but if he keeps fobbing me off, then would there any other way I can get a code for the cd player?
    Cheers

First off, you don't need a certificate of permanent export to VRT the car, all you need is the car, the full V5 (which I hope you got...) and the money. You are required to present the car to the VRO for payment on the next business day following importation. Have a look in the service book, the radio code is often written into it. Otherwise, the dealer who originally supplied the car may have it on file.

I only got a new keepers supplement part of the form. I didn't realise till I went to my local revenue office that I should have gotten the full V5. I emailed the DLNA office and I had to fill out a form to apply for certificate of permanent export which should take up to 4 weeks (I've asked the lady I emailed to treat my case as urgent.. worth a go)..

Is my car going to have to remain off the road till I get my VRT and irish plates/car tax?

I'm afraid so, unless you can convince the VRO to grant you a stay.

I got my cert in the post this morning, which was cool given that i expected it to arrive much later than that :-) How do i get VRT now? Just basically go to my nearest VRO with the car? Is there a form I need to fill out? If so, can i get it online? Cheers

I assume you have a VRT quote for the car? If so, just go to your local VRO with the car, the cert, and the money. You'll be issued an Irish reg and given a form RF100 which you can use to tax the car online immediately. You can then have the plates made up. You'll have to wait for the VLC to arrive before you NCT the car - once you have the VLC, you can bring that to your local NCT centre to have the car registered on their database and to make an appointment for the NCT. Note - the VLC will not be issued until you have taxed the car.
