Have a blacktie event coming up and im looking for a tux but id like to wear something a bit different!

Ill stick with a black trousers and shoes and probably a white **** but after that id like something a bit unusual!

I was thinking about a white shirt with a thin black scarf worn under the neck, i havent just made this up i have seen it before! would anyone have any pics so i can get a better idea??? to explain it a bit better, there is no tie or dickiebow worn but the scarf is tight around the neck resembleing the neck of a polo shirt!

or anybody have any other ideas?? i dont wanna be major stand out but just something a bit unusual that looks elegant would be nice!

I think you mean a 'cravat'. A cravat for formal wear is worn over the shirt. The less formal day-cravats worn under the shirt are not suitable for a black tie event. You should be able to rent one with your tux.

Might I ask, is this for a wedding? And if so are you part of the wedding party or just a guest.

No its just for a college social so basically i could go in a yellow suit if i wanted!

I didnt think it was a cravat i was looking for to be honest, it would be as if i was wearing a tight black polo shirt under a normal white shirt and the polo neck was obviously showing over the shirt at the neck!

This is kind of what im getting at but its not the best pic! > http://www.models1.co.uk/largepic.asp?ix=6&modelid=351638&subid=4324

I see what you mean. It looks like a straight forward poloneck. Not sure where you'll get one though. Topman perhaps.

<Whispers> Might find one in a ladies shop that will fit. There are occasions when we have to resort to plundering the womens rails just as they frequently plunder ours. Shushhhhhhhh don't tell anyone.

I'm sure you could still manage that look with a cravat/scarf.
