NCT question rear door Rover 75

    Need some help guys.

R75 NCT test next month, problem is the rear passenger door is locked shut from inside and out. I think the central locking mechanism has failed.

I have just phoned the NCT crowd and they are not really sure if this is a fail which is a great help.

Anyone here worked on these or knows someone who has?

    From NCT manual
    (1) A door missing.
    (2) Door cannot be shut or opened normally or is liable to open
    on its own.
    (3) Insecure receivers or catch.

Thanks mate, you would think NCT would know this when you phone them.

There's a link to the NCT manual in the main sticky too.

You should fail for this problem. They will want to get into the back seat to check the seat belt condition and anchor points and if your door won't open, then obviously you have a problem. The NCT will not tell you if your car will pass or fail because the person on the end of the phone doesn't know anything about your car and the last thing they want is you failing and then quoting the person on the phone chapter and verse about how they told you x y or z. In any event, how can you expect the bird on the end of the phone in Citywest to know if your car will pass or fail for any particular item, they are not trained in testing cars with regard to the NCT criteria.

The problem with your door is only a visual fail anyway so you won't have to pay for a re-test, provided that this is all you fail for...

Thanks for the reply, but the girl on the phone went and spoke to an inspector and he was not sure either.

They can get into the back of the car using off side rear door and check belts that way. They are not sure if it is an access requirement because front 2 doors are fine.

Its a fail, a door that cant be opened is not a door:D

The reality is that if the tester just happens to use the door that will open, to get into the back to check the seatbelts, then you will probably pass for this as I haven't seen them checking doors before to see if they open and shut. The chances are if the problematic door is on the drivers side, then you will be failed because usually they will get out of the drivers seat and then go to check the seatbelts so instinctively they will try to use the drivers side rear door for this.

Sure you'll probably fail for other stuff as well, I wouldn't worry about it for the moment, just stick it through and see how you get on.

Thats good info, the offside rear door is fine, so it will not fail unless he goes around the other side of the car.

Had the exact same problem on a rover 25. The front passanger door was jammed although it was 'open'. What I did was got an old lock fitted to it that I have to lock and open manually and left it open for the nct and they just checked that the car locked with the zapper. They never even noticed it, plus the door can open now and no more climbing seats! Cheap enough aswel to have it fitted

Let me see, I'm just looking into my greasy crystal ball here... Something is coming through, ah yes..... I can see him in a navy blue jacket and work trousers.... He is getting out of the drivers seat now.... He's gone over to the emissions machine, WAIT, as he walks past the drivers side rear door, he is thinking of checking the seat belts but he is thinking something.... What is he thinking crystal ball??? Ah yes, thank you crystal ball, he is thinking of checking the seat belts but he decides to leave it until later until he finishes testing the emissions....

Ah BOLLOX, the light has gone off inside the crystal ball, it has said enough for today! I'll try again tomorrow for you OP! ;)

I will just stand beside the rear passenger door then for the whole test and casually distract him every time he goes to open it.:D

That sounds like hassle, I'm just been lazy, I should get out there now and remove the door inlay and have a look.

Now some testers are overweight lazy c*nts like myself and they'll open the drivers side rear door to check the seat belt on that side and then walk around to the other side of the car and open the passenger side rear door to check the seat belt on that side, rather than clambering into the car using the one door! :D:D:D

F*ck me, I never thought of that, and I also am an overweight lazy c*nt

I will just have to get a fit skinny tester

Thats 2 things to do now ... F**K
