V Brake problem

    Hi, Apologies if this is a very simple question but I can't seem to figure it out. Last night, I was trying to adjust the brakes on my 2007 specialized sirrus comp. Alll was going well until I tried to adjust the tension of the springs (brake arms weren't releasing quick so I reckoned some adjustment should improve things), On any other v brakes I've worked on, there is a little screw to do this, however, these particular brakes have no spring adjuster screws. I searched high and low and take the whole unit apart but nothing. Nor can I find anything online. I've searched all the usual places including the tektro website but can't seem to find the exact brake. They are a mini v brake, possibly RX series (some article online referred to 2007 sirrus comp having RX1's but the picture of the RX1 on Tktro website has spring adjuser screws!!), but I've no other info. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    On mine I used to use the screws, now I just simply disengage the lever and I can then take the spring out from its locating pin, (still attached in the brake) then I just bend it a tiny bit in whatever direction it needs, then pop it back in and adjust again if needed. Usually have it grand in just 3 goes.

    you can also reposition the spring into one of the 3 holes on the boss - usually the lower one causes the most spring tension.
    Is there any chance the screws fell out of the arms?

    When you stripped down the brakes what sort of return springs did you find. Were they a small coil spring in each arm, or a long wire spring running alog the length of the brake arm?.

    HI daroadlescycled, they were the long wire springs running alog the length of each brake arm. In response to the Kenmc's post, no, the screws deifinitely didn't fall out. There is no hole for adjustment screws anywhere on the brake arm. And strangely, the are no 3 holes on the boss of the fork in which to reposition the springs. It's confusing.

    Really? so how is the spring tension maintained? Maybe you can post a picture of the setup?

    countersunk screw, with a allen key head??

    If you dont have the holes on the frame you do not have v-brakes, or a spring in that position.

    id say best thing would be to clean the area.

    it could possibly be like some BMX bikes and use a 14mm bolt when the brake is mounted.

    The long wires are your return springs.
    You need to be sure if the springs are returning properly. to do this you need to disconnect the cable , and with thumb and fore finger pull the 2 arms to-gether ( if nessary drop out wheel to give you more distance) let go and they should return instantly.
    If they dont it is either the springs have weakened or the arms are stiff on there pivots which need to cleaned and greased. If there gone weak you may be able to tension them. Have a look and see is ther any means of making them stronger by moving the wires in towards the rims.

    If neither of above apply you may not have a enough of travel on your brake levers.You said at the outset you were trying to adjust the brakes.Were your levers travelling to the last . What bars have you flat/drop. In some instances you may need an extra pulley and cable (travel agent) to compinsate for your mini v brakes.
