I work on building sites most of the time and im a plumber so im on my knees quite a bit , i find the leather on top of the steel toe cap wears on my boots in the space of a few months and then the boots will leave in water, i have bought 3 different brands of boots dewalt, makita and another one each costing round the 100 euro mark.
i like the boots cause they provide the best movement as i could be crawling in attic spaces etc sometimes, someone please help!!!
Anybody else have this problem , any solutions or reccomendations of boots out there?

This may sound stupid but would it be an idea to get a cobbler/ shoe repairer to stick a patch of "sacrificial" leather onto the outisde of the toe of the boot? When the patch wears tear it off and reapply. might look a little odd but should at least double the life of a boot.

In my place of work it is a 'no-no' to have the steel toe cap exposed (I assume they're worried about coming in contact with live plant). You can rest assured that the boot no longer meets the desired specifications when the toe is exposed.

You can get boots with a rubber cover on the toe, I looked up the net and this is an example:

You can now get boots with composite toe caps and midsoles (the above referenced one is an example). I suggest you try them, the leather mightn't wear as quickly against a composite material.

I'm based in Cork, when I'm back in the office tomorrow I'll dig out the name of our PPE supplier. The guy we deal with is great, if you tell him what you want he's guaranteed to be able to sort you out. I assume I'll have to send you the details by PM (not sure what the rules are about 'advertising').

We get our PPE from http://www.mjscannell.ie/ here in Cork, but I note from their web site they have an office in Dublin as well.
