My sister moved into a rented house just two weeks ago in Clontarf with 4 mates. She came out this morning to find her car on blocks, two of her wheels gone. And the car? A 2005 Almera with stock 16" alloys! This must be a case of stolen to order, why else would anyone want those wheels, and only two of them?

Any ideas how much 2 rims and tyres would set her back? She felt like laughing and crying at the same time, but she was clearly shook up. Man i'd beat the head of anyone that I caught doing that...

Being honest, and its no insult to anyone with an Almera, but why would you "order" two alloys for one??! The kind of people who drive almeras arent exactly the gangster type.

I'd say it was young lads messing.

'Cause they'll rob two off another one.

Young fellas messing would just scratch it or smash a window or something.

More than likely they were disturbed and had to make their getaway with just the two. Prepare for them to come back and attempt to get the other two wheels in the next few days.

I never thought of that. Yet it was the two inside wheels that were taken, she was parked parallel to the road so they might have taken them to limit their visibility.

We were broken into (Celbridge) 18 months ago and my GF's 05 Almera was taken. The car never showed up! Wondered at the time why anyone would want to steal a pile of crap like an Almera!!!

I hope it was just they tyres they were after:pac:

Probably be cheaper getting 4 steel wheels and a set of hub caps

Another wheel nicking job in Clontarf. 3 cars (two avensis's and a landcruiser) have had their wheels nicked on my road (in clontarf) alone in the last 6 months.

Would love to kill those båstards.

Get a spare battery and connect it to the inside of the wheels with jump leads, a la James Bonds 7 series.

The insurance should cover it if she has comp ..think theft doesent effect the bonus with most insurance companies there days

Maybe when she gets the quote for the 2 wheels and tires she'll know why they took 2. And generally if the front wheel is damaged the rear wheel will also be as it'll hit the same hole(s).

Get a set of lock nuts and use them to stop the scum from taking then again.

I have mine wired up the same way. ;)

I just drove down to Dublin with a set of wheel locking nuts for her, so the other two wheels are secure enough. She's just going to get some standard steel wheels for the moment. Nissan quoted her €70 for one steel wheel and no tyre which seems a little on the high side, anyone have a good recommendation for a garage to get some 16" steel rims and a set of cheapo tyres for as little as possible?

Try www.summerhillspares.ie 01-867 3232 - they might have replacement alloys with decent tyres. They're in the the industrial estate opposite cinema on Malahide Rd, Coolock.

Not the case with Quinn. This gutted incident happened to me just 3 weeks ago and Quinn is only happy to replace my 4 wheels for me losing all my NCB..fully comp. A wake up call for me to shop around for new insurance company.

Yup, shes with Quinn and got the same "why are you ringing us" attitude.

Locking Nuts all the way even if they are cheap alloys!

almeras are so common that the full set of 16" alloys can be pciked up with perfect tyres for under 200 quid...

and who in their right mind would risk their arse over 100 notes ?

    Muppets. :pac:

Just wait for a traveller to call to the door explaining he heard you had two wheels stolen and just so happens he has a set he will sell for 50 euro.

    Yes, yes. Great advise here.

So they know where you live and you decide it'd be a good idea to beat them?? Get out of that with your internet sh!te talk.

Sister just rang me and said she was out by the Almera this morning and 4 lads drove by in an Almera laughing their heads off, little sh!ts.

Anyways, she got in touch with a garage who didn't have any 16" steel wheels, but he said it must be her lucky day as his mate has a crashed Almera that had body work done and all four wheels replaced under insurance, so the owner has two slightly scuffed stock 16" alloys sitting in his garage! Shes away to have a look now, beats paying €600 for two new ones with tyres.

Presuming they took them, they must be local then, see can she get a reg no. and see what the Gardaí can do?

Just spotted her car, its on my road. Several cars have had their alloys nicked on Victoria over the last few months, 2 avensis's, land cruiser and now the almera. Weird, hope that scum are caught

Absolute gypos, they used a brick from beside the Ryans house there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Friends of mine had his wheels robbed of his Avensis only two weeks ago. They were a lovely set of OEM Toyota wheels that I haven't seen many of. I told him two months previous to get lock nuts for them. I see these undesirables driving around Limerick with the wheels on their Avensis now. Cheeky scuts.

What sickened him most was, "They used bricks from my garden, and they left all the nuts in a neat little pile next to the car" LOL!

Voodoo, get you sister to get a set of locknuts pronto! About €25-€30 in Consort in Drumcondra, Eddie will see you right. They have branches in Artane and Finglas East as well.

I'll try to find out what type of wheels were nicked on Hollybank Road.
