NTL card swap

Got a letter in the post yesterday saying NTL are changing their decoder cards. Just wondering what impact this will have on all those dodgy boxes out there? Don't have one myself - just curious is that what the card change is all about.

They are supposedly changing the encryption to nagravision 3 . Which hasent been broken yet. So all the "dodgy boxes" will be of no use.

Any truth in the rumor they are only posting to people with a Setanta sub, I received a card also and had a Setanta sub last year but canceled and got SKY but still got the card which I posted back to them

I doubt it very much. The swap is about removing the "NTL" features and bringing in "UPC" features.

There are some strong rumours that Nagravision 3 "Has been cracked", NTL/UPC are behind in this area. There seems to be moves around the globe on Nagra 3 to be cracked, so probably when it is finally introducted here it will be Hacked. Just google it.

Only the NTL branded cards are being changed.

That's amazing about Nagra 3, seems NDS/Videoguard is the only one that hasn't been hacked, I wonder why?

Mainly the reason why it hasnt been hacked is that it is used by nearly every "Provider" worldwide who pay top dollar to have the encryption, e.g. if sky wasnt paying NDS your average bill would be around €10 less per month! so multiply that €10 by how many customers that sky have, now thats a lot of money. But the old saying "If it's man made, it can be broken by man" On other forums so mods are saying that the "Dodgey" box's can be rechipped to run Nagra 3, but as yet Ive senn nothing to say it has.

A certain Encryption Provider has allegedly paid serious money to highly professional outfits to crack all the other systems.

Ask Canal+ who hurt them and why?
