    Hi,

Was on flight home from Europe last week and seen a young kid in front of me with a PSP and the graphics and gameplay looked brilliant.

I am not really into computers anymore so am not too clued up - I used to have the PS and PS2 when younger.

Can anyone recommend a site to buy the PSP, was looking at Play.com

    http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?searchtype=allproducts&searchstring=PSP+3000&page=search&pa=search

Also I heard I should buy some memory for it as thats needed.

    Any help appreciated.

Play.com won't deliver electronics to us in Ireland unfortunately!

Gamestop and the like would have pretty good deals on second hand ones if you wanted a cheap enough one. They also will have good deals on new ones in bundles with games and accessories etc. It's definitely best to shop around and if you can get up north to buy one you'll save a fair bit with the Sterling rate being so weak at the mo.

It uses a Memory Stick Duo card aswell, you can get em also in gamestop but I think their about €35 for 2Gb, so you'd be better off getting it online if you can.

Iv had mine 2 months and I love it, great for watching tv shows on the way to work etc. :)

I would by a DS tbh. I got the PSP on launch day and after a year of playing poor quality games i havent usd it since. god of war was the best game i played on it our the siphon filter games but besides that theres nothing to rival the DS for game quality.

shame real damn shame cus its a great piece of kit

id be of the other opinion ive both the PSP and NDS and i think the DS is the 2nd biggest waste of my money since the Wii. It has no good games on it it has terrible graphics and after a week of brain training your fed up of it. I have about 30 games on it and they are all poor.

But my PSP isnt much better it also sits in the drawer untill in go on hols i i use it on the plane but thats about it. but at least when i do get it out it is quite an impressive machine. god of war killzone manhunt 2 ( the uncencored version) all worth playing but i do mainly use it for watching tv shows on the plane.

I can't believe you bought 30 games and still consider it a waste of money.

What did you do? Buy the biggest console bundle known to man?

I think what Rev. said was that he had 30 games 'ON IT', not that he actually purchased 30 games.

I don't think anyone with a DS has bought 30 games for it. ;)

OP, if you want to watch movies etc while travelling then you can't beat the PSP IMHO. The screen is fantastic and the battery life while playing movies off the memory stick is great. You should get 3 movies or so between charges. also, you can get extra batteries should you be on a long haul flight or something. I only have a couple of games for the PSP. I found them good but not totally amazing. again, in my opinion. I am a casual gamer like youself it sounds like. I'll go through a phase where I'l play the machine for hours on end, for days on end and thn I'll not touch it for weeks. For casual GAMING you can't beat the Nintendo DS (I have a load of DS games across all genres) but it cannot play movies easily.

So, to summerize (Once more before the fanboys kill me: In My OPINION)

Movie playback, some good games: PSP hands down
Great casual gaming, NO movie play back: DS

Oh, for movies you WILL need a sony mem stick and software to convert your legally owned movies :)

    .........NO movie play back: DS

With a flash card (R4/DSTT) and moonshell software you can watch video and indeed listen to MP3 on the DS, but.....the screen on the DS does not lend itself to video playback as well as the PSP does.

Maybe give him a list of essential psp games and he can check the Nintendo forum for DS essential games then make up his mind?

Even by looking at play.com, the psp has more games that would appeal to a male 15+ year old gamer rather then My Pet Shop or Letz play: schools.

Though DS has some good titles like mario kart, new mario bros and castlevania, the rest is like the wii, Shovelware

True. I have Wipeout which I like and the Capcom pack (With SF2, 1942 etc) and that's pretty cool too. You are also right about the abundance of crud for the DS but you also have Zelda, FF etc.

Yeah, that's what I meant about it not playing easily (I should have said easily in the summary) Plus I have not seen the quality of the DS playback

What's the batterylife like for video playback on a touch though? I heard it was only about 3 hours or so? With the PSP, just in my own experience, I've gotten about 5.5 hours playback plus the battery can be changed and I did not notice much of a difference in the screen quality

OP, just to let you know, a new model PSP is more than likely coming out later this year, so I'd go with a PSP 2000 for now and then upgrade later to that if you have the cash. Also, you should let us all know what kind of games you like and then we can give you good recommendations.

Yeah I'd hardly call Fart Aps 'games' either.

I actualy do own about 30 PSP games, I love the thing. At the moment I'm playing Patapon, J'eanne D'Arc, Final Fantasy: Dissidia (import) and myself and the fiance have been playing Monster Hunter Freedom together.

Looking at my gaming shelf I've also got: Crisis Core (Import and English version), Crush, Daxter, Disgaea, Final Fantasy I and II, Final Fantasy: War of the Lions, God of War: CoO, Lumines II, Locoroco and LocoRoco 2, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 1 and 2, PSN Puzzle Pack, The Simpson's Game, Star Ocean; First Departure and Second Evolution, Tekken 5,Tomb Raider Anniversary, Valhalla Knights, Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, WipeOut Pure and WipeOut Pulse.

Then from the PSN I've got Super Stardust Portable, Beats, Riff: Everyday Shooter and Echochrome.

What I'm looking forward to playing this year (of what has been announced): Patapon 2, Phantasy Star: Portable, Dissidia (English version), LittleBigPlanet PSP, Motorstorm PSP, Assassin's Creed PSP, Persona 1, Resistance Retribution, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Disgaea 2, Undead Knights, PixelJunk Monsters PSP, Ushiro, Cardboard Senki and maybe Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep.

So I'm of the opinion that if your PSP is 'collecting dust' that you're doing it wrong! There are an enormous amount of great PSP games.

Why is it that almost every thread that gets started about PSP turns into "Don't get that, get a DS! I have a DS and I love it. My copy of Peggle Dual Shot arrived today and it's amazing. You owe it to yourself as an owner of a DS to play Peggle DS.

Also with the PSP you can download some ace PS1 Games off of PSN, like Crash Bandicoot and Hercules! I love my PSP, I do use it more for surfing th net in bed, although th brwser is a bit dodge. Looking forward to some new games on it too :)
