I'm flying Shannon to lhr term 1 , the first of April arriving at 10:15 am
i then have a flight from terminal 5 to LA, dep at 12
i plan to do online checkin if i can closer to the time and will only have one piece of carry on luggage
whats this I'm reading about allowing 2 hours between terminals, that sounds crazy, i need some assurances please, will i make it ?
or will i have to change flights

    thanks

You are cutting it very very tight

If your flight lands at 10.15 it may very well be 10.30 by the time you actually get off the plane

then this is what you have to do.

    1. Walk down the long tube type corridors that the Irish flights land at, 8 mins approx.
    2. Get a lift a few floors down
    3. Get to the Heathrow Express station. (steps 2 and 3, 8 mins)
    4. Could have to wait up to 15 mins for a train.
    5. About 5 mins on the train
    6. Another 5 mins to get to the T5 check-in floor
    7. Do you have a boarding pass, if so go straight to security, if no then go to Assistance desk, could take 10 mins +
    8. Go through security, 5 - 10min, could be a lot more.
    9. Get to your gate, could be another 10-15 mins

I make that 76mins, that is very very very tight

http://www.britishairways.com/travel/lcinfo/public/en_ie would aggree with Benedict XVI

but the BAA site mentions a bus directly from t1 to t5 departures http://www.heathrowairport.com/portal/page/Heathrow%5EGbl%5EHeathrow%5EGeneral%5EAirport+information%5EFlight+Connections/3e50e73955c28110VgnVCM20000039821c0a____/448c6a4c7f1b0010VgnVCM200000357e120a____/

either way while verging on the tight side it does seem doable. Can you change your flight to an earlier 1? so easy to be delayed when flying into Heathrow, did you purchase the ticket starting from Shannon with BA or have you booked that flight separately.

I have not taken this bus so I am only guessing here but it may not save much time.

You would still have to get out of T1 and get to the bus stop and then get off at T5 and head for the departures/security area

The Heathrow express drops you from T1 basement to T5 basement.

I presumed you didnt leave T1 as normal, as in the bus left airside and brought you to T5 departures, but since BA don't advise this "bus" would bank on it!!

just a bump as i am back from my trip, it might be of help to someone
well the panic was over nothing
my plane arrived early, so things were good from the start
but i walked at normal pace waited 10 mins for train, went through busy enough security, and got to my departure gate

term 1 to dep gate term 5,
    55 minutes easy

Yo Bobby - Just saw your post.

Now I'm thinking will I make it

Just realised I arrive into Heathrow T1 at 9:00am on Sun 17th May, I then have to go to Heathrow T5 to get a connecting flight to Los Angeles at 12:00pm.

I have one piece of hold luggage and it will not be checked all the way through :(.

Any other tips I should know about to cut down on cross-terminal delays etc.

Any other help will be great.

    Thanks in advance.

It can defo be done, so long as your first airline land on time and don't leave you waiting on bags Aer Lingo style
Once you get your bag, you're away tbh.

You should be fine, seeing as you arrive at 9am and leave at 12am that gives you 15 hours to get from T1 to T5 !!!

Seriously, as long as your bag gets off the flight quickly you should be ok.

    Hey Benedict XVI,

I made a mistake in my original post regarding the times - just spotted that now.

I wish I had 15hrs (not really) - but I only have 3hrs to get between terminals and thats only if the first plane arrives on time and the baggage will be of quickly:rolleyes:

    Thanks Savman for the reply.

I shall report back, thats if I get going in the first place ;)
