    Howyis,

The good lady and I are due any day now and due to her sore back is dying to get the child out of her.
So was wondering if there any tried and tested natural methods of inducing labour other than Pineapple, nipple stimulation, spicy food, getting in a rattle, and long walks.

    Any other recommendations?

Reflexology is supposed to be good, if nothing else, it'll relax her. There's also the cod liver oil route, but I wouldn't go there if I were you.

hope everything works out OK ........

You should take advice from your midwife or GP on this.

Baby will come when baby is ready. Your wife can ask for a membrane sweep at her next ante-natal appointment. They will be able to assess her using the Bishop score, which indicates how physically favourable she is for induction of labour. Induction should only be considered before the EDD if your wifes backache is chronic and excruciating.

I'm a great believer in letting nature take it's course. Babies are "ready" to be born around the time labour starts. 40 weeks pregnancy is a guideline, not a rule :)

I do however understand your wife being eager to deliver. I went 12 days overdue and was cracking up!!!

Best of luck, not too long left!!!

Oh good God almighty please do NOT go there.

I went there :(, all it does is break your waters and bring on false labour, which leads to an induction, which in my case led to fetal distress and an emergency c section under general anesthetic... my own fault :(... even though a midwife in the Rotunda recommended it :o...

OMG!Out of curiosity what do you do with the cod liver?? I was induced on my little man, was feeling really depressed for the last month of my pregnancy so I asked to be induced.

You drink it... it was actually castor oil that I took now that I think of it, but it has the same effects!!

(The idea is that it gives you diahrea(sp) and that in turn contracts the uterus to break the waters)

I remember my mother saying that, when she wanted to " speed up the delivery", she would handwash her laundry, so getting a little more physically active might help. Be careful not to overdo it....might be old wives' story

My mother was the same, only washing the floor on her hands and knees was her speciality.

Yeah apparently the sperm has natural prostaglandin hormone in it! Makes the cervix ready for birth!

Yeah, that has been mooted. Many times, many many times..... Had a bit of a scare yesterday when she was feeling 'very weird' and just wanted to stay indoors.
I believe the spicy food thing is the same idea as the castor/olive oil as it gives you the trots and then breaks your waters, so not a great idea!
Up to two pineapples a day now, but still no sign of getting a rattle in, I'm sure all the other expectant fathers can sympathise.

How ironic.. what got her into this mess could get her out of it ;) Unfortunately, baby will come when he/she is ready.. hope it's sooner, rather than later. What's the due date, is she over yet?

We're given a few dates so in theory, we could go from now up to the 4th of april without being induced. Suffice to say, if she's up the walls now I think it's the best for everyone that we go sooner rather than later as I'd hate to see the mess we'll all be in come the 3rd of april!!

As the o/h of a pregnant women I second this and agree strongly it must help someone. If not the birth of the child it will def help me! :D

On a serious note for some strange reason my o/h was very very frisky around the time she was due and still ended up going 8 days over so tbh I really believe when the time comes it will come and you will know about it..

Hope you have praticed the driving root

Wouldn't be concerned about the driving route as it's the n11 straight to Holles street. However, does anyone know the policy of getting a garda escort to jump the lights etc? A mate of mine claims the Gardai have to escort you in if you ask, I've heard elsewhere that it's only if they have nothing else on. Just if the time comes to do the run into town and it's rush hour we're goosed!

If your sure the baby is on its way and your in the middle of rush hour I would ring an ambulance. Most labours go on for hours though so don't panic. You could probably wait it out at home if contractions are not too bad.

Doesn't bring on labour! It tones the the uterine muscles in preparation for labour and to help things along. But, it does not bring on labour.
