Greetings, i got a Dboys M4A1 and it had several problems, i had to send it back and forth several times and eventualy i got it for free becuase i had to wait a bit over a month till i got a new one. But eventually i got it, and what i thought was fast (since it was my first AEG) was actually pretty slow. I went to a site and it had to be crono'd (like all guns) and it came in at 170fps with 3 shots. It was advertiseing 320FPS. I got in touch with the company and they said since i got it for free off them there is no warrenty and they cant fix it for me if its a big problem(totaly understand)but they would fix it for free if it was a small problem. Clearly its something inside it so i cant get it fixed by them. Therefor i will have to fix it myself, which i have no idea how to. So any1 have any ideas why its fireing so low fps? For instance, if its the spring, how do i take it out and put a new one in and where could i get a new 1.

Thanks very much lads and sorry for writing an essay

    Rob

rare to hear of a dboys with a low fps there usualy at the oppsite end of the scale,
there brerak down of a m4 is fairly easy ,
vids here including basic upgrading and maintaince

    http://www.mechbox.com/

springs can be got from most of the irish retailers being dboys an ms80 spring should do the trick or a systema 1 joule spring also available from irish retailers ,also irish retailers do repairs and upgrades if needs be

when you have the top reciever off (shows you how on mechbox) i guarantee you will see a hole in the nozzle.

its a cheap asshole way of downgrading

i had the same problem, be thankfull you got it for free because now you need to get a new nozzle and then maybe a new spring if the new nozzle brings it over the limit:(

you would also be advised to get a few different cheap nozzles so hopefully one at least fits a. into the hop up unit b. onto the cylinder head.

and last sadly there is a good chance it will stop feeding because the hop up unit doesnt sit right in the body, i had to prop mine with folded card.

i should have got mine for free:mad:

Ok thanks guys, can you tell me what spring to get and where i can get it? or that nozzile you were talking about, as i said before the gun does 170fps around that.

[qoute]"i should have got mine for free"[/qoute]

damn right you should of, thats rediculous, they should of at least play for the repairing. if its not to long ago maybe you could mention it to them, see if anything can be done.

spring just a rule of thumb if the air nozzle has a hole in it id get something like an m80-85
Air nozzle if your planning on replacing your air nozzle id recommend you avoid any of the "tight bore"
most irish shops dont stock many parts. If its an option at all go to a retailer that services aegs and at least get a quote.
This may also be an option worth considering a replacement gearbox almost over kill but worth looking into.

ok thanks very much for them links. Just one more question tho. eirsoft sell a ms90 sping, it says it does 300fps, so shouldn't i just ge tthat? or could it be the air nozzle thats effecting it aswell?

The spring while important is only one of many parts that can throw your aeg over the limit.
my m4's air nozzle broke i replaced it with a tight bore guarder air nozzle (same one i linked earlier) now the aeg crono's at 340 vs the advertised 310-315 stock fps.
it can make a diffrence in my case a fairly big one so id get a spring and air nozzle just incase.

i stripped it down as soon as i got thus voiding the warranty, after tightening up the outer barrel, propping the hop unit and changing the nozzle, spring and bushings its descent enough.

good luck with yours. . .

the spring in yours would akin to an M100 or more. the nozzle is leaking most of the pressure thus the low fps

It's not necessarily the nozzle, it could be numerous thing, an air leak in the cylinder for example, best thing to do is open it and check everything.

If your not used to opening gearboxes, your better off not doing it yourself, could end up losing pieces etc.

Those videos are good, but when something flies out of the box and ya dunno where it goes...your in trouble.

You can check the nozzle without opening the gearbox, you should check the compression on the cylinder too.

Do that by taking the cylinder and piston from the gearbox, pull the piston back and push forward, if it goes forward too easy its a compression problem.

if you slide off the top receicer you can see the nozzle sticking out of the gearbox - i'd be just about certain its got a hole drilled into it.

a quick way is to turn the aeg over and shine a light down the mag well into the spout that feeds the bbs it should appear smooth & black with no holes or cracks if it looks fine than you will probably have to open the body of the aeg and maybe get inside the gearbox before you spot the problem. If I were you id get down to a shop that does repairs and they will look after you.

if you cant get to or afford a shop repair learn as much as possible before you touch a screwdriver
http://www.airsoftretreat.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=67&cat=49 heres a guide showing you a normal v2 gearbox breakdown it goes into reasonable detail on each part.

Ok, will do thanks. last question. what other things could be causeing the fps to be so low apart from the spring & the air nozzle?

Could be an air leak in the cylinder, could be a hop up problem, I've had that problem myself

Yeah you'll have to remove the cylinder from the gearbox.

you shouldnt have to replace a piston at all unless it explodes on you,or when the teeth get tore up. they do wear but it takes a long time.
