Fact or Urban Myth

Heard a story a while back regarding a Par three in West of Ireland. The story goes something like American tourist tee's off, Green is virtually blind, as they approach it there is no sign of his ball, the caddy suggest he look in the hole. Low and behold it is in there, Back in the bar its tips all round for the caddies.

Now the sting in the tail is how it allegedly got there!! The caddy has a mate who had taken the ball from where it has landed and placed it in the hole as part of a plan knowing full well the rich Americans will tip the well.

    Fact or Fiction??????????

They tell a similar story down in Lahinch in relqation to the quirky par 3
called "The Dell". The green is completely blind between two large hills.
They place a white rock on the front hill each day to give you a line to the flag. Caddys mate sits on the back hill and any ball that lands close
magically ends up in the hole. Players are greeted by applause as they come into view and its greenbacks for caddy.

Myth methinks but never let the facts ruin a good story !!!

Its the dell in lahinch. And im guilty of that very crime.......A few years ago in a practice rd for the south as i left the next tee i made a quick detour down and popped a mates ball from the group behind into the hole.....We heard the cheers from the next fway. He was so delighted with himself we didnt have the heart or courage to tell him...... He still talks about his ace at the dell.....

It was also in an episode of 'My Name is Earl'. In fairness though it wasnt set on any course in the West of Ireland!
