Question regarding tyre size for a rim

I need to replace two of the rims on my car. If I go to the breaker yard and pick up two 14 inch rims will the height/width dimensions matter if I'm looking to get a new set of tyres put on the rims? My current tyres are 175/65/14. If I picked up 185/60/14 could I get 175/65's put on them? I checked the faq but couldn't find an answer.

    Thanks

The tyre sizes would be ok..but make sure the offset on the wheel is ok for your car...otherwise the tyres might rub the arches or shocks...hope i havent frightened you too much...:o

Just make sure also that the rim is the same width as the one coming off or it could rub against something. The rim size both height and width is usually printed in the centre near the wheel nuts and should read 14 x 5.5 or 14 x 6. Must 14" rims are 5.5" or 6" wide.

BTW...why do you need to replace the rims..?

One of them was badly banged somehow when I bought the car. It does as a spare, was driving Sunday on way to play a match in Anglesea Road when some kid going to the rugby schools cup dashed from a blind spot and I'd to swerve to avoid him. In the process I'd managed to clip the side of the kerb damaging the front passenger wheel. That's badly buckled now too. just thankful I didn't hit the kid.

There would also be the minor issue of center bore size, fixing hole size, fixing hole diameter and rim and last bot not least diameter and spacing of the fixing hole "circle" :D

In other words ...get the rims from the same model car as yours or you will make several trips to the breakers.
