I thoght that it might be a good idea if people put up there predicted times here before ballycotton on sunday and when the results are out see how close we got to our times. If anybody knows a good way to work this feel free to suggest.
    I will start:
    Predicted: 88mins

Well, People will have to reveal their real names for start!
    Alan Burke: 64:30

David Bradshaw 69:30, never done Ballycotton before so I have no idea how realistic this is

Hmm, I guess we could also trust people to state their correct time after the event.
It seems anonymity is preferred by a few posters, so that's fair enough.

I could be landing myself for a fall here but 61.53. A min quicker than Dungarvan and 2.30 quicker than mallow.
    forecast is muck though.

Havn't a clue and the fact I havn't had even a small run in 3 weeks makes it even harder to guess:

    Will say 80 mins...

    69:59 is my aim...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,406 ✭✭✭ike

Early in the season for me have'nt really got the miles into the legs will be pushing for sub 70 but with the forecast looking very windy I'll realistically say 70:45

First time racing Ballycotton...I'll go for 63

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭blind_hurler

Hoping for under 80mins but anything inside my Dungarvan time of 83 and I'll be happy :-)

probably slower than Dungarvan and Mallow - 67:30 maybe

    Good to aim high.

    Snowing down here this morning:eek:

    Did 76:25 in Mallow.
    And 74:59 in Dungarvan.

Despite the weather forecast and interrupted training, I'll be disappointed if I don't duck under 75min.
    I might be disappointed .

Just recovering from shin splints so will say 77 minutes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,120 ✭✭✭Gringo78

68min in Mallow for first 10mile race so hoping to go <65min but might be too big a leap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,083 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Was hoping for under 70. Although I've been very lax and feeling under the weather over the past few weeks so probably not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Funkyzeit

Just checked latest on accuweather - showry/windy with gusts of up to ... 82kph...

Not much you can do about the weather. Best bet in the days leading up to the race is to worry about what you can affect and deal with what you can't when it happens. Taper, eat well and get to the line in the best condition you can.

I have no clue what kind of time I'm going to run - been too long since I've run this distance to make predictions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭Orobhsa

I'll be happy to go sub 75.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,083 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Woohoo, managed to come in in below 69 mins, despite not expecting it as I didn't feel training was going well over the past two months. So happy there :)

    Good man Stark.

    1. Vinny Mulvey 49.06
    2. Sean Connolly tallaght AC

    1. Pauline Curley 59.03
    2. Donna Mahon 60.22

3rd win for Vinny. Will have to start thinking about taking the King of Ballycotton crown from Noel Berkely - how many does he have? 6??

just under 73. 5min better than last year so happy out

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 155 ✭✭OBWON

88:57. My predicted was 88 mins so close enough. nearly 3 mins quicker than dungarvan a couple of weeks ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭Funkyzeit

71.11 on my own watch. Very happy with that - well done to the organisers for organising that lovely tail wind in the second half of the race.. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 297 ✭✭Orobhsa

Just under 74 on my watch. Very happy with that. Over a minute under where I hoped to be. Second 10m PB this year.

Was a bit worried by the wind before hand but my splits were pretty even. Found it a bit strong heading towards Ballymaloe but other than that was OK.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,492 ✭✭✭Woddle

About 71 not sure, nice race and support but I myself didn't have a good run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,406 ✭✭✭ike

Clocked myself a 69:05 (chip add a few) extremely happy with that got the sub 70 monkey off my back

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 155 ✭✭OBWON

It was my first time running ballycotton. I thought the last 2 miles were really tough. Especially the last one. The hill upto the finish line was much bigger than I thought. My first 8 miles were averaging out at 8:45 min/mile which is good for me and my last mile was a handy 9:44. I hit the wall head first just got over the line in under 89 so can't be too upset by that.

Predicted 64:30 - Actual 61:29 [chip] PB by 30 seconds or so.

Had an odd race - Still recovering from injury so was planning to hit half way in 32:20 going steady, but not 100%..
Had a bad starting position, so ran an aggressive [yes, elbows were deployed] 1st mile in 6:10 or so, but felt really good, so I kept it steady for the next mile, 6:15.
At this stage, I changed tack, decided to run fast but steady, spending as much time as I could drafting. Hit halfway in 31:30 or so, and had a bit of luck.
Fell in behind a runner I know, a 60 min man who must have had a shocking start and was making his way through the field. Sat with him for about 2 miles, and let him off then. 10km in 38:30 or so. Struggled for stamina in the last miles, but kept a steady pace to the end.
I'm position 120 for the second year running, despite gaining 30 seconds.

    The elusive t-shirt awaits.

    It's good to be back!

Well done to John Walsh, the crew, and the whole community down there.

Well done - had to deploy the elbows at least 20 times during the first quarter mile myself

If that's accurate [and I actually doubt it], then that is an awesome performance.

I was 11 seconds behind the mat. Even then, once passing the mat, I spent about 10 seconds shuffling, and maybe a minute ducking and weaving, untill hitting some clear road.
Somebody 15 seconds further back probably didn't get to do ANY running for about a minute, and then he would spend the rest of the race going past people [well, all bar one :-) ]
It's looking like a timing chip anomoly.

    85 under the hour

    60.38 needed for the t-shirt (top 100)

the chip time is definitely wrong as sean was standing next to me on the front row at the starting line. not sure how that would get messed up like that but he started on the line...any ideas how that would happen???

No idea. Interesting though how even the top runners were 1 second slower on their gun time compared to the chip time, probably because the start mat was slightly ahead of where they actually started the race from.

    66:19, predicted 67:30
    enjoyed it,
never suffered and made up a lot of ground over the last 2 miles,
    good day,
    the organisation always amazes me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,656 ✭✭✭village runner

Predicted under 62 but done 62.37. Very lucky breeze was behind for last 5 otherwise i would have stopped. Felt poorly on the day and if there was ever a day to run a PB in ballycotton yest was the day. No excuses though. Only as good as your last race.
Re the chip system i dont know. A lad i know brought a blind legend around ballycotton. The 50 year old even ran 78.20. Yet his time was 18 seconds faster than Tom Kennedy yet they finished together.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,492 ✭✭✭trotter_inc

Was hoping for sub 80 but did it in just over 72 mins, so delighted :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 502 ✭✭✭ClashCityRocker

Was hoping to go sub 70, ran 65.20 so pleased with that. In fact, my overriding emotion at the end was disappointment that I didn't go sub 65!

Ran a dreadful race there last year so pleased to have exoricsed the demons (if that's not too dramatic a phrase to use :D)

    73:12

    Happy with that. Very happy.
Ran 7:40 first mile and settled the account with a 7:10 second mile. 37:00 at mile 5 and then did a negative split(!!). Mile 5 to 6 was the easiest mile.
Didn't struggle until last mile and had nothing left in the tank for the finish, which prob cost me a sub 73.
    No complaints.
    New PB.

68min - was aiming for 65 but knew from the start it was never going to happen, not when going through the first mile in 7:30. Improved my time from mallow though and knocked 17min off my ballycotton time from last year so happy. Have been off the roads with injury the last few weeks so happy that all seems ok today.

Woddle, I heard your name being announced over the PA system as you were finishing, I (foolishly) thought that I was just about to finish but had a good 400/500m left to go.

Had a lovely race in hindsight, 82 minutes odd. I started at the back and took 11 minutes to cover the first mile.

Things improved somewhat after that. I cannot complain too much about the crowds, as I was part melee too. Still suprised to see so many i-pods given all the notices. I got tangeled in a very loose set of headphones at two miles (I was very tempted to rip it off, but did not).

Lovey little rain shower at six miles, saved me having to take water later. Well done to all.
I beat Ron Hill in too by a few minutes, I know he is 70+ but I will always have that.

Definitely a little strange about chip times. They always seem to add some controversy.

I think the reason for the first mat was so that the announcer could see the runners that were approaching the finishing line. The last 400m of ballyc is the longest 400m you'll ever run.. torture!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 793 ✭✭✭damoz

The last 400m was tough alright.

First time in Ballycotton, and first time to run 10 miles - so a PB was in the bag regardless. Was aiming to run sub 80, and came in just sub 74 so happy with that.

Ah hah - that's it alright. They have the same in the Dublin marathon just as you turn the corner off Nassau street. I knew that's why they had it Dublin but it never dawned on me yesterday that that was the reason it was there.
