take a look over at digitalspy and its been discussed to death. Basically, if ITV HD goes to sky, its said that C4HD will be released from sky to freesat

or... CH4HD will go freesat when the SKY renewal comes up

CH4 is supposed to be a public service broadcaster, in the same (but more .. 'youthy' )manner as BBC, only funded through advertising.

Channel 4 HD is available on a FTV card, easily my favourite 'free' HD channel.

Not for long. Sky are phasing in new cards and the old ones will stop working (in another thread, too lazy to find it now)

Yeah, that's my thread about the new cards on the way BUT if you get a NEW FTV card then you will be able to get 4 HD for free.

True. But we still don't know if they will post out new cards to all the FTV users at their UK addresses, I suspect not.

Depends on how long ago the FTV card was issued (it's in the other thread) but Sky will definately use it to coin in some more dosh...

The argument being that you indeed get C4 already, HD is only a perk but I take your point!

The Channel 4 we officially get here in Ireland is different to the UK one as sometimes they blank out movies and programs as they only have the rights for the UK, I suspect there may be a similar issue with 4 HD and it's very unlikely they'll set up one just for us!!

It will be a few months before they turn off current cards. It was the same the last time they issued new cards.

But does CH4 HD broadcast from 2D to keep rights holders happy if it was free. Would it be able to broadcast free on a wider beam across europe like ITV HD is now (sort of Hidden but not really).

I would be hopeful that I'd get another 6 months out of mine, the new ones aren't supposed to start rolling out til next month and I can't imagine they'd have all the millions of cards out and working in a shorter timeframe.
