Gatso Van - 11pm last night, westbound Dublin quays

just a heads up, there was a white transit van parked outside Guinnesses on the westbound Quays on the way to Heuston Station.
It was pulled in on the left hand side, half hiding in a layby / entrance.

Just in case this is a week long stake-out location for them.

Not sure what the speed limit is on that stretch of road... I was doing 50kph and think it might be 30kph.

    This was at 11pm.
It didn't have any reflective stickers on it like the older vans.
Simply a plain white ford transit van with blacked out windows.

If it's a 30kph zone, then I may have chalked up my first penalty points.

You're grand. The limit is 50 KMPH so you'll be fine. There shouldn't be any problems with anyone getting caught along here as it's a busy road during the day, although you said it was at 23:00, so would be relatively quiet then. I travel it regularly and when I do, it's always late - midnight to 5am so a lot quieter. Having said that, some drivers who must not have the ability to concentrate whilst driving and are therefore incapable of keeping at a set speed and not venture much over the limit will be done, if they haven't been done already
A higher limit would be possible but the Guinness brewery entrance/exit and the fact that a lot of lane changing takes place here means that the current limit is probably more suitable.

I drive down that road regularly too. Usually after 10pm. I seen that van a few times and jammed on the brakes just as many.

I never knew it was 50kph. I usually do 60 according to the speedo(55ish in reality). I guess I won't drop to 35kph from now on. A lot of other drivers seemed to slow down just as much. I'll have to keep an eye out for a speed sign

Again dont be too worried. It might have been one of thoses new fangled ideas. You know the one about guards sitting in a van waiting for a crime to happen i.e old lady getting mugged, your TV getting nicked, maybe even someone breaking into your house then holding your family hostage while you are escorted to the bank to withdraw millions. Hidden speed cameras are a waste of time and I dont care what anyone has to say in response to that. Highly visible speed cameras/traffic cops/better education is the way to cut fatalities not this revenue raising sh**e. The fact that you get the fine 1,2 or 3 weeks later meens it didnt effect your driving one jot. You broke the limit so nothing has changed and if you knock a child down 1 kilometer up the road and kill it then what has the hidden speed camera done but raised €80 to help bail out the banks. Sorry for ranting on this but I have no objection to proper speed prevention methods. And I'm not biased , I have no points and intend to keep it that way.

Noticed that van parked on the N4 citybound just before the Liffey Vally exit last Thursday night.

I was flashed one afternoon in the same place. I have not got anything in the post and it was about two months ago or more I think. I believe I was going between 60kph and 80kph.
Some northern driver had just veered into me at the junction before, it was only a tap and I did not feel it worth the bother as I think he quickly turned left to get away but it pissed me off so I did increase speed and when I turned away from my rear view mirror I saw the van too late.

That said, there is not a single speed limit sign along the quays that I have ever seen so I had no idea what the speed limit was, I figured perhaps 60kph.
