Friday the 13th Part 2 (NEW)

sOME NEWS ON THE UPCOMING SEQUEAL (hope i spelled that right)Please, try and contain your shock if you can! Yes, that's right, after Marcus Nispel's "Friday The 13th" made an easy $71 million at the Global Box Office in just two weeks on general release the big wigs in Hollywood thought it only too appropriate to unleash more of the same with a "Friday The 13th Part II" being given the nod. The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog reports that New Line and Platinum Dunes are moving forward and that Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote the first chapter, are bashing their heads together on a new script as we speak. "Part II" will be a direct follow on from the events of "Friday The 13th" with Jason Vorhees taking up hack 'n' slash duties once more (and no, that's not a plot spoiler for those who have yet to watch the remake...did you really think Jason was going to die?). According to reports this new outing will be original IP with just a wink in the direction of the founding series and little else. It would seem that the producers are wary of the half-dozen sequels that rather spoilt it for everyone ("Jason Goes to Hell" anyone?). Nispel has yet to comment on whether or not he will be back to helm although this seems unlikely. He's currently shopping around for other projects. Before this one hits though we've got yet another remake to look forward to from New Line / Platinum Dunes in the form of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" - I can hardly wait!

Why,because Im not wowed by braindead remakes and believe them to be abhorrant in nearly every way?

Let me ask you,if genre classic movies like say Platoon or Goodfellas for example were to be remade,do you not think 99% of movie fans would be sickened at the thought?I know I would so why should it be different for horror movies?

No need for personal insults either.Im not childish enough to report you because the fact you have to resort to insults says everything I need to know about you.

Your first post was more insulting than my response.
You're missing the point. You're fully entitled to your opinion about remakes. You didn't give your opinion on remakes in your first post though. You just did a rolleyes and laughed at the OP for saying he was looking forward to a particular film.

Fair enough. It was not my intention to insult the OP and if indeed he is offended by it then I apologise to him.
However,as per charter rules(attack the post, not the poster),I was not insulting him merely laughing at his post because I find it staggering that anyone that has a genuine love for horror movies can honestly say they are looking forward to a remake of ANOES.

In fairness i thought the OP's post was pure sarcasm, these remakes depress me, and the fact that they do well depresses me even more :(

I smell a hellraiser remake after the elm street :D

The same could be said for any genre though. On the topic of a sequel, I have yet to see the new Friday the 13th but I have heard mixed reviews on it. I will see it my self and make up my own mind on it and then comment on whether or not there should be second. Personally I am a fan of the original series (no matter how bad some of them where) so if the new one is good why not make a sequel.

But instead of remakes would you not rather see new fresh movies being made? Giving people with actual creativity a chance to shine ? No ? Ok enjoy paying money for movies you have already seen before, derp !

    Ed Zachery.

It seems the only original material is that which is coming from underground or independant film makers working off a tiny budget and doing nearly everything themselves.Of course the vast majority of these get ignored because the makers dont have hundreds of thousands of dollars to pump into advertising them to witless american teens or the movie going public hate them because of how they are shot or because the acting isnt up to scratch.Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.Ive said it before and I will keep saying it until it changes.

HOLLYWOOD HORROR IS DEAD AND ALL THESE REMAKES AND THE PEOPLE THAT PAY TO SEE THEM ARE JUST PERPETUATING THE WHOLE SHAMBOLIC THING

You can't remake movies like Goodfellas - as far as putting a new spin on it, it's not versatile like that. Besides, it's based on a true story so...

That's what I like about horror movies and why they can be remade - some people always have new ideas on how to 'improve' them perhaps or even just tell the story differently. Can even be a small detail like having zombie's being able to run instead of walk.

I have to say I was looking forward to the new Friday the 13th as I love horror movies and let's face it, they more than any other can, imo, become outdated sooner rather than later. I loved the first Friday and A Nightmare on Elm Street but I think, for the latter and had hoped for the former that they can improve the franchise as far as updating it.

Friday the 13th 2009 was shockingly bad. So many things wrong with it I'm actually fed up of explaining them. I'm sure if you've seen it you know what I mean.

So I'm glad this Nispel guy (even though he did a good remake of TTCM) isn't making the 2nd one and I hope you doesn't go near the new 'Nightmare'. Having said that, I don't think the shambles that was 'Friday 2009' was all down to him but...I've still lost some confidence in him.

It's ironic because, the filmmakers you mention will, in the future, be the ones 'perpetuating the whole shambolic thing' (provided they reach the goal). Their goal is obviously to make movies. The better they are the more recognition they'll get and the more money they'll get for the their projects and then it's only a matter of time before a studio comes knocking and there's no way they'd turn it down! And you should hope they do become successful and work for studios because it's the only way horror movies that joe public wants and the horror fan wants, will be made. In a perfect world of course but, that makes too much sense to me! Something gets lost along the way - like hiring such filmmakers for shoddy remakes. Ah It's a big f*cking mess I don't know anymore! :D

I prefare to watch indie movies personally, most of the time they are better than the main stream (which does come up with alot of s**t) but I will give any film a chance, just as long as its not another scary movie type spoof or Eddy Murphy in a fat suit again.
