if you like stupidly tall modern architecture then shanghai is your place, choose from the top of the oriental pearl tower (1560ft), shanghai financial center (tallest completed skyscraper in the world) or the Jin Mao Tower (1,380 ft) with which to view the city

Shanghai Maglev train travels at 270mph on the way from the airport into town, the distance is 20 miles so the journey takes about 7 minutes

the bund area of town is probably the most famous, many of the older, classical buildings are located here along with shopping, dining etc

Hope some of this is of use:
    (1) People Square Park : Its nice a the weekend, lots of people around, Tai chi etc. While there you can either visit (i) Shanghai Museum Address: 201 Renmin Dao Dao, People's Square or (ii) Shanghai Urban Planning Museum Address: 100 Renmin Da Dao, People's Square.

    (2) Nangjing East Road Pedestrian Walk: This is a busy downtown street called Nangjing East Road. You will be overwhelmed with the crowd of local people and tourists walking on the street from different directions. its full of shops and is busy all day however be careful if any local people / acting friendly students tried to show you to tea house or around the area. They are just scam artists Just ignore them and walk straight.

    (3) Yuyuan 豫园 269 Fangbang Road (M):
    http://www.yuyuantm.com.cn/
You prob need to take a cab to get there. It is a tourist must go place because it features an Oriental Garden liked place which offers lots of traditional street snacks and handcraft shops. Recommend to go early otherwise it will be crowded.

    (4) Jiang'an Temple
You can take Metro Line 2 and go to Jiangan station stop. It is a famous temple and it is very interesting to see a historical architectural building located in the heart of a modern city.

    (5) The Bund (A cab ride under RMB 15)
Highly recommend you to go at night. Or you can go during daytime and have an afternoon tea in one of the historical buildings

    (6) Xintindi (A cab ride under RMB 15)
They tore down a traditional community housing complex and turned it into a chic place. It is a very popular place to go for food and drink. Popular with ex-pats.

Some suggestions on where to eat:

    (1) Le Royal Meridian 8/F - Ai Mei Chinese Restaurant: The served Cantonese food with delicious dim sum. Very reasonable priced and very high standard.

    (2) Raffles Mall or 来福士广场 (address:268 Xizang Road (M) 西藏中路268号): It is a shopping mall with both restaurants and fast foods joints on every floors. If you want a quick bite, you can either go to the basement floor for Japanese Ramen 味千拉面 or go to the 6/F, the food court 大食代 which offers various dishes (you need to buy a prepaid card and get refund for the unused cash balance). If you want a sit down type meal, try Charme 港丽餐厅 on 6 Floor, they offer great taste and wide variety of food but is always crowded with a long line.

    (3) 789 Hotpot or 789新概念火锅料理 (address: 180 Xizang Road (M) Gao Xin Building 4/F or 西藏中路180号高盛商厦4楼): A hotpot concept with individual small hotpot and own selected soup based. Cant recommend this place enough, Id eat there every day!

    (4) South Beauty or 俏江南(百联世茂店) address: 829 Nangjing East Road 南京东路829号百联世茂国际广场东扩9楼(近九江路) 021-63528856 63528857: It is a well-known chain served Sichuan cuisine. again high class and a bit more expensive but with good standard of Sichuan food.

    (5) Kathleen's 5 Rooftop Restaurant
    5th Floor, Shanghai Art Museum
325 Nanjing Xi Lu, Shanghai 200003
    www.Kathleens5.com.cn
    Tel: 6327-2221

American style restaurant, comes recommended but you didnt go to china to eat steak and fries? ;)

A great bar to go to in People park at night is Barbarossa.
    Barbarossa Club Restaurant
    231 Najing Road West
    Peoples Park
    Shanghai (next to Art Museum)

    (6) Lost Heaven
38 Gao You Road (Near Fu Xing Xi Road)
    Tel: 6433-5126
They offer Yunnan Folk cuisine which I find it very similar to Thai Food. The restaurant is pretty with great ambiance and is able to accommodate for a big crowd. But the location is a little bit off from the central so budget enough time in case. After the dinner, you can go to Fu Xing Park where they have several drinking bars/club e.g. Park 97, California Club inside the park.

    (7) New Heights

    3 Zhongshan Don Yi Lu
    www.threeonthebund.com
    Tel: 6323-3355

If you want a night in the Bund, go here. New Heights offers a casual western menu and the best Bund view with the wraparound terrace. After the dinner, you can go and have drinks in "Bar Rouge". It is one of the popular bar / club venue in Shanghai. They located on Bund 18,
18 Zhongshan Dong Yi Lu 7th floor (but charge RMB100! entrance fee during the weekend)
