An annual 5 mile loop walk roughly Between Roscrea & Shinrone to raise money for the charity 'To Russia with Love' a very worth while Russian Orphanage Charity.

This is a 5 mile road walk, Organised every year for possibly about 10 years now by Alice Williams. It is a road walk. No pressure whatsoever with any aspect of this walk. ie If you only bring a tenner along to support the charity you will be welcome. If you want to get a fundraising card and sell lines this can be done too. You can walk it as fast or at as leisurely a pace as you wish. There are always 80 + walkers at this event regardless of weather. Even when it snowed that day last year there was a big turn out.

Set off point: It starts and finishes at Alice's house... details available by request. But it is about 3 miles from Shinrone and 7 from Roscrea.

Tea & Sandwiches free to all

Date: 1st Sunday in April. (I think it's the fifth)

Car pooling is a good idea. Talk to ea other here about that or contact me or Alice and we'll see if we can pool ppl together.

This is a great way to meet people. All ages go from kids to the elderly and everyone in between. Both male & female go. A big match that day can have an impact on male numbers, but there is a surprisingly strong turnout none the less always.

One or two have run the distance... this is also welcome.

Pls feel free to PM me or to comment here if you would like more information.

Or phone Alice Williams on 086 3720 720

Let me know if I'm leaving out something obvious.

I would also appreciate any contact details for clubs who would like to hear about this.

As an afterthought.... for those living closer to Portlaoise... I would be delighted to organise a walk in this area on the same day or not, to serve the same purpose of raising funds for this great charity & getting ppl together for a casual day out. I'll even do the tea & sandwiches!!! (For my sins) Maybe ppl would like to do say a weekly walk at a couple of quid a walk for say 6 weeks? as a way to get to meet ppl? Not going to offer to do tea & sambos for 6 wks mind... I know... I'm bad....

As another afterthought... (I really am making this up as I go along) We could do a different Slieve Bloom walk every week for say 6 weeks with a small fee donated to the charity. This way you will learn more about the big range of handy walks that are on our door step for when you want to head out with a buddy or the family etc.

I will need your feedback if I am to organise these. 5+ interested parties & I'm game.

Pls pls pls... think about this one....

You will get a bit of excercise...
You will meet a few new people....
    You will be fed...
& most importantly you will be fund raising for a really really worth while cause. BUT... while we do WANT to raise as much money for this charity as we can... no one wants to put people under pressure in the current economic climate. So as little as a tenner is fine. In fact a fiver would do if you're strapped for cash. Every little bit helps.

    Thanks for reading.
