It all depends what your looking for. I cannot help with the sites but places to stay for me would be

Montjay La Tour or La Palymre. Both in the Vendee region of France(South West Coast). Try to stay around Bastille day as the atmosphere is great. You can see the fireworks up and down the coast from the beach at Montjay La Tour.

As Berty says, it depends what you're looking for. France is a huge country with many different attractions and climates.

A good place to start for cottages would be www.gites-de-france.fr where you can search by region and type.

Good luck, it's a great country.

    BTW,

I fly to France now and hire a car from Avis instead of paying €800+ for the Ferry.

If you have a family then the ferry is the only way to go.

I would definitely recommend the Languedoc while the south west coast is lovely you are are taking a chance with the weather. Try Ownersdirect or holidayrentals.co.uk for huge range of accomadation
