As you all probably know if your self employed (class S) you are exempt from the 2% health contribution if your earnings are below €26K.

My question is if I also earn employee income (class AL) of €20K is this combined with my self employed income to see if i'm entitled to the health contribution exemption or not?????

    Many Thanks

    Hi,
Unfortunately they will combine both incomes to assess if you are liable for 2% health levy, so if you have an employment income €24k and other Schedule D income of €5k, total €29k you will have to pay the health levy which will be 2% of €5k.

    Hi Swanvill,

    Thanks for your reply.

That is exactly what I thought however just to be sure I called the revenue yesterday and they said that wasn't the case. That the €25k exemption threshold relates purely to class S income.

They really do like to confuse matters.

Sorry to add to the confusion but I was talking about the health levy which is different to the 3% S class PRSI levy. Re the S class PRSI contribution it is 3% or €253 which ever is higher. The following link might help you a bit http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Publications/SW74/Pages/6WhatamountofPRSIdoIpay.aspx
