I see myself producing and doing very little else! Any takers? What area would you like to work in within music production? What would be your dream job placement? Do you ever want it to be more than a hobby? Have you set goals for making a living or goals for making better home demos? Please do share your taughts, views, ideas, whatever, general music production chat is most welcome...16307183_eaa4f176d2_o.jpg

Never in your wildest dreams can you imagine just how much pleasure and power the position delivers....... mwahahahah....

I have goals but I also love the way life turns things around on you. I could never have guessed a few years ago that I wouldn't gig for over 5 years. Now that seems crazy. I'm sure it'll be the same for others. But I'd love the idea of releasing my music through my own established infrastructure to an existing fanbase that can also support periodic touring. I'd also love to be writing songs for other artists to perform. That can pay for the mansion, vintage guitars and neve desk :P:P:P

    ha ha ha!!!
    ;)

five years time? the biggest fcuk off studio in the country and the biggest debt to go along with it. Hell Yeah! with a mother of an API console and a Studer 16 track, it'll be like the 70's all over again! Line of Coke anyone?

Being very optimistic I'd say scraping a living by combining band and production work. I'm not expecting anymore than that, probably not even that.

in my dreams - a beautiful studio with a large format console (ssl, neve) and a stunning live room with clients who blow my mind every time they play.

reality - probably working in post-production while running my mix room on the side to keep my music side satisfied.

either way, as long as i can keep doing what i love and keep food on the table ill be a happy man.

I had a choice and I took the small studio low rent recession choice, you have nothing to drool over with me DT. I could have gone big but I wanted to build up not start up and break down.

i like that.. the budget recession special :pac:

you should call it recession recordings.

seriously though, from what you've told us about it here and the hard work you're putting in i think size doesnt matter ()

Thanks DT, it's funny as soon as I come up with a niche business idea I get loads of work from songwriters, so weird how the world works. I'll keep you posted on how it all pans out with PopStar, should have a good idea by the end of the summer. I am getting plenty of bites so the signs are there but I haven't started landing anything over 6 pounds. I will try a new spinner next week. I have my PR company unloading 2000 flyers for PopStar in NCAD and Griffith and a few others over the coming weeks. Hopefully I will start to get bookings. In relation to recording songwriters the line between being a producer and a friend can often get blurred. It is so hard to manage cash flow when you are dealing with people with little money. It is even harder when those people prioritise holdiays and the likes over their album. This is why as you mentioned in a previous thread it is so important to have a tuff forskin because you have to be able to tell people (in a nice way) that this is not my hobby it is my job. Some songwriters I work with have no problem paying over cash and I respect that but there is always one. I advise everybody to do up a contact with the artist concerned so everyone is always on the same page financially. I can also see why people would get out of recording for this very reason as it is just added stress. The entire reason behind PopStar and sorry for going on is to make money by pressing play and record. I wish you all the best in whatever you are trying to do regardless of what stage you may be at because it is hard going out there. The competition is tuff. Type recording studio dublin into google, PopStar are on page 1. My SEO is a genius. It is amazing what people can do when they put their heads together. Who would have taught I am above Pulse!!! ne ne ne ne ne!!

I will be a spastic rock god.

seriously though I don't know, I'd like to assemble a band and actually play gigs again, am relocating out of Ireland to do this, as the scene is very indie/acoustic dominated. Though record deals and the like don't bother me anymore, as long as I write music which I like what most other people think is irrelevant.

Fair play it takes alot to really not be bothered what people think of the music you create, best of luck with that :)

Probably still programming as my main Job but in a 50/50 split between that and Composing. Will hopefully have written a few Virtual instruments by then on Steinbergs VST14 platform for my QuadOctuplet Core Organic PC ( Made from Cow **** ). Then I'll buy Brendan Perry's Castle & record Azam Ali on Vocals..

    02emperor350.jpg

And now we take an interval on BBC radio 2 for our weekly look back on poor Paul.

    Poor Paul
    he once stood tall
but then he became a mod
And played the game of God

    The lads gave him grief
For he was nothing but a thief.
    Poor Paul
    Called him a sod

    He tried so very hard
    Typed so many posts
    Not a man to boast
    Poor Paul

    Lost it all to Boards
    His riches and fame
    Hung his head in shame
    Stick him on the flame
    Burn him to his death
    You know you wont forget
    Poor Paul
All he had was a shoe
