How do you feel paying €5.50 for a pint in a plastic cup?

I was at a gig on Saturday and got a pint of Guinness served in a plastic cup. And before the "well you shouldn't have paid it, if you think it was a rip-off" comments roll in - I thought it was a nice pint.

I've heard before that a lot of people have problems with it, that it doesn't taste the same etc. Well what are your thoughts on this?

Generally the Guinness can be a bit touch and go due to the fact that the kegs used at gigs aren't in regular use.

I've yet to have a decent pint of Heiniken/Miller at a gig, and really hate when they pre-pour a million pints. I always ask for a fresh one.

And I hate when you get a 17 year old dope from D4 pouring your pint where she thinks that 70% full is as good as 100% full. Again, she is told to go back and do it properly.

I don't have a problem with inflated prices and just take it as part of the event. If I don't want a pint, I won't have one.

It's a little annoying when you don't get a free glass.

If your willing to pay for it how is it a rip off?

    Ah you do. Albeit collapsible.

Also tried to hold a glass.....er...glass in your mouth when applauding the band? Bad things happen.

I expect both rip off prices and plastic glasses at gigs.

I was at the UFC recently at the O2 (still sticks in my throat to call it that) and had some of the best Carlsberg I've ever tasted served in plastic!.

It's rotten thr price of booze (esp at gigs) and them poxy plastic cups. Guinness tastes manky out of them.

/usual blah blah blah no ones forcing you to pay it ; if you don't like it then don't buy it rubbish/

My thoughts exactly. A gig is a once off. You expect the plastic glasses and the overpriced beer. It's all part of the experience.:)

From what the OP posted, he/she is not saying it was a rip off, it is how drinks taste when served in plastic cups, rather than glass pint glasses, that is the question.

i generally find plastic glasses nicer but thats only my opinion. im not a guinness drinker BTW.

from a perpective of somebody thats worked in a busy pub, plastic glasses are a dream and i find the head on them is often easier to get even on taps that arent set up with the correct pressure. means no glasses thrown everywhere (insurance cost reduction) and depending on the types of glass, very little, if no washing.

plastic glasses are IMO, the way forward.

I've boycotted big gigs since they came in. How can you glass a Coldplay or U2 fan with a plastic container?

Out on saturday night just gone. I was in the mood for a kopparberg, but it was 6.50. I took the glass out with me too. It's a nice glass :) I have a collection of odd glasses at home. Prices are a little steep. Down the country I could get a bottle for 4.50. That's a pretty big mark up. I know there are extra overheads, but I don't care for this :)

Plastic glasses are dead handy at a Fleadh when you can hop into one pub, buy a pint and leave with a clear conscience and go elsewhere when the music dies down or the craic isn't good.
I like to wander around and have a listen to every session and drinking up to finish a pint in one pub to go to another is a pain.

The portable pint is your only man.

You get some bouncers who won't allow you to leave with a pint because drinking on the street is illegal but once glass isn't involved and your over a certain age the real cops don't seem to mind.

Next time try for an Erdinger glass, now that'd be something to add to your collection

Smirnoff Ice used to have these frosted silver pint glasses. They didn't last long anywhere, all swiped

I had one of these too and it was in a plastic bottle, served a little on the warm side, smaller than the normal bottle of Carlsberg and all for the bargain price of 7 quid. Tasted real nice..

Actually Guinness is almost always better in a plastic cup - they're guaranteed to be clean and dry. It's only the really, really cheap flexible plastic cups that I can't stand.

you are given a plastic cup because the people behind the bar dont want to have to be cleaning thousands of glasses til 6 am in the morning!

Personally i hate pouring guiness into a plastic pint cup, just feels odd, always try and give a glass for the guiness!

I don't care if the pint is served in Megan Fox's vagina, I still wouldn't pay 5.50 for a drink...

Really? Are you serious? You should reconsider....because that's a bargain price.

Have four of them - they're great ones ;) Though I think a couple of them have been broken by now - frosted glass goes everywhere :P
