I'm going to get back into cycling to and from work seeing as how it won't be dark for either part of the journey with days getting longer. :) I need to get a lock and have read a few reviews linked from here. I've come to the conclusion that this is the shizzle. Any others out there worth considering?

I have that lock but without the cable. It has chips and dents where it was hit with what I assume was a hammer. Still works though.

What you have to remember is, if a theif really wants your bike, he will have it. If you lock it somewhere hidden, he will just have more time to go at it til he has it. Lock it somewhere open where there are plenty of people around, try not to leave it over night (drunk people like to kick them) and make sure all quick releases are removed or else they'll have the wheels/saddle/whatever.

Aye it will be right outside my office........which is in a shopping centre so there'll be oodles of people about. :) I got the QR taken off when it was bought.

I've that lock too(Or once very like it if there are different versions of it). It's taken a fair amount of abuse over the last two or three years but is still working fine.

Btw, how does a thief go through a lock like that? Is something major required or will a nifty pair of bolt cutters go through it?

    I have several of these.

It is more secure (thicker shackle, less space to jack) but difficult to frame-mount and the smaller size means you have to be more choosy about what you lock it to.

If you are able to leave the lock at your preferred locking place (e.g. company bike rack) one of these would do the job nicely, although at 4kg you wouldn't want to move it very often.

The Kryptonites are pretty much the reference lock for portablility/theft resistance. As Lumen says, the Fahgeddabout it (which comes in Mini and Large size) is a bit more beefy, but I use the Evo Mini and it does the job just fine

I use that lock too, it's the bidness. I don't have the flex but that pack should totally secure your rig. Their reputation makes them as much a deterrent as a lock and don't forget to fill in the form that comes with it as Kryptonite will pay out if your bike is stolen when correctly locked up.

    There is no large size.

There is the New York Lock® STD (unfortunate name) but although they claim it's the flagship lock, the shackle is "only" 16mm, compared to 18mm for the Fahgettaboudit.

I've not seen the STD on sale anywhere.

Yup, and Germany I think, but I sent mine off to the UK anyway and if the worst happens I'll still chance my arm!
