Mt Leinster or Spur Hill are your closest active Tx. You "may" be able to pick up Mt Leinster in Cashel.

spur hill is out I'd say, it barely covers 30 miles away from Cork

i don't think spur hill is powerful enough to reach tipp.

The mast, Geography/Site and power of Spur hill is designed for Cork City, which being on a n estuary/river valley can't really get Mullaganish. Not likely anywhere iin Tipp.

If you have a path then Mt Leinster is best bet. I can get the 430MHz band UHF voice repeater here 6km west of Limerick city. (Gap in mountains to that direction).

Put up a suitable aerial and try :) It depends where exactly in Cashel you are (hole in ground vs hill).

so i presume this goes on the chimney?

so I have to buy this aerial, which could be a big waste of money :(

out of interest how much is that aerial and where can it be bought

If you want DTT you have to buy an aerial either way. They are not expensive and can be bought in B&Q, Maplin and many shops online including eBay

Doesn't have to go on a chimney. If you are already high then a a mount at at ceiling height should be good enough if you are not blocked by mountains

Just wondering if you had any success with the DTT in Cashel headshot

DTT in Cashel should be no problem now. Both Maghera and Mullaghanish active since this thread started.

Anyone know when Tipp town will go digital?

Can you get TV3 analogue at present, if yes what UHF channel/frequency does the TV show?
This would be a good indication about DTT reception source as of now where you are

    You might get Mt Leinster

What about the transmitter in Suir Valley - or is my geography way off?

I think Tipp town has it's own relay and is waiting on an upgrade.

I believe it was on the original 2008 list of 53 sites to be upgraded but that could have changed under the new plan.

The new 49/51? DTT site list has not been published by RTÉNL.

I remember seeing it on the original list, when's the updated site list due?

Whenever RTÉNL decide to publish it, at a guess late 2012.

The next 5 or 6 months is being used to confirm coverage from the rolled out transmitters after which RTÉNL will probably decide what sites will be dropped or added.
