I was thinking of trying to cycle some of the giro d'italia this coming May. Hopefully for the final ten days or so into naples and rome. Anybody have any experience doing that kind of thing? I was looking at travel companies that do packages but your talking 4,000euro for a week. Just looking for some ideas.

I don't have much to suggest other than just carry your luggage on panniers at the back. It might be advisable to change your route to avoid the big cities. The routes into them tend to be clogged with trucks and other heavy traffic. These roads will be closed for the Giro but they will not be closed for you!
