Thanks Sean for the help though :)

    Agreed.

Practice. Then you'll find amp settings here www.carnegiehall.com

    ;).

A lot of the best regarded jazz amps aren't tube, just so you know. The roland jazz chorus 30 is very highly thought of, and is a solid state. If you're looking for a tube amp for jazz, then i'd recomend something with a lot of clean headroom, like a hiwatt, but you wont get one of those under 50 watt (...or 1500€ either!!).

I'd recomend one of these. It's a brilliant copy of a dumble, and should serve you well. http://ceriatone.com/productSubPages/Overtone/CTOvertone.htm

After that,it's just a case of playing with either the neck or neck/bridge, and having the tone rolled off. Good luck on your jazz quest caoimh! :).

Then you are not playing jazz.

Well in fairness, you haven't clearly said what you're looking for us to recommend. Your first post asks how to get Jazz tones from a Tele, but your next asks for a valve amp recommendation:confused:
If you're going to change anything, get a new guitar, or perhaps a p90 in the neck of the tele?

Sorry... i should not have said that before.
Those tabs on Ultimate Guitar are other peoples interpretation......they could be totally wrong there.

Try some other sources......i now use software called Guitar Pro 5.2
Much better than the tab text.

Yeah I've got my guitar here with me - I seem to be able to get good results by rolling the tone back, using the neck pickup and using my finger. And that's only with a Roland Microcube.

Plus give yourself some overdrive too

I am asking... How to achieve the tone of Wes Montgomery.. and what would I need to achieve this tone, changing my Pickups or Amp? Just how to get that tone, wether it be just amp settings to play with or an overhawl of new pickups and amp, but I want to stick with my Telecaster as a guitar.

I know Guitar Pro, The Tab Is right for a version off one of his other albums, which is layed out differently, then it heads off into a different version again, but im not learning that.

    Thanks very much though.

    Single coils or Humbuckers sir?

Jazz needs a bit of tweeking on that tone control too. Almost full way.

I've heard people play jazz on everything from Les Paul's to Steinbergers... so the guitar doesnt really matter that much. It's more a case of playing style and a clean amp.
Whoever made the suggestion of the Roland Jazz Chorus earlier was bang on. That probably has the best clean tone ever.

I tried both - I have a coil tap switch. They sounded fairly close with the other settings the way they were, with humbucker mode sounding a bit thicker. The thing is, Wes probably sounded different in a live setting. And could have sounded a bit different recorded depending on how he was miked up. I firmly believe that most of the tone will come from the actual playing, and I think if you can generally approximate what you hear from Wes with your gear, you'll be half way there. Seriously, unless there's a drastic and dramatic change in setup, most players will sound pretty much the same no matter what. I've long been swapping pickups and various other bits and doing side-by-side comparisons of guitars, and I've come to realise that the sonic differences in these things are FAR more subtle than one might think.

lower your neck pickup down physically in height so that it's output is lower, and it's bass notes aren't booming too much
then use the middle position so you've both pickups on,now roll off the tone 3/4's to kill alot of the treble

finally get some flat wound 52's on there ,touch of reverb, clean amp
    sorted

Neck pickup, roll off the volume a little, roll off the tone a little. That oughta be jazzy..

But in fairness you'll never get that thick, punchy tone like Wes without an archtop.
