Don't you just hate when guys turn up to see the car that you have for sale seeming very enthusiastic and admitting that your car is actually better than expected:D. They waste your afternoon, drink your coffee and eat your scones:rolleyes: and then they come back to you saying that they already have too many cars or the wife said no
Didn't ye know that ye had too many cars before you came and wasted my time , and if you had to sneek off to look at it ,what did you think she was going to say!
I hate that line---when I sell my own I'll be back to you. Guys, wasting somebody time on a 1500 quid car is the greatest insult anybody can receive.
I know that somebody is going to reply to this saying to get over it, but when the first guy rings and says not to let it go anywhere that he will take it if he is happy and when he turns up and cannot fault the car,and you never hear from him again---I could go on,,and I'm sure that everybody here could tell a similiar story.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

i have had the same guy turn up to me on a couple of occasions, driving an MGB , I think its his hobby to go for a spin in his car and on the way have a test drive in someone elses car.... no intention to buy, just enjoying himself at someone elses expense.

mind you, I didnt give him coffee and scones....

Lesson being...if they want it, get a deposit out of them....Ive just recalled another guy who siad yes I'll have it, I'll just pop into the town to the bank, be bacj in 10 minutes....Im still waiting....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,822 ✭✭✭✭galwaytt

I think we need more facts: are these home-made, or shop-bought scones. I'm leaning toward home-made if he stayed that long........:)

So, where are you again, nice day for a spin...? :D

They were home made by Mrs JF. Served with jam and washed down with the Harrods Coffee that she bought on a pre-Xmas shopping sp/trip. What a waste---anyway, ye know who ye are. Ye posted here recently, very recently

Am I too late for the scones? Sorry bout that but I was out looking at a car. Nearly bought it but the missus would have killed me. Anyway he was asking €900 and he would not budge below €875 so I left it. Maybe when I sell my own and have cash in hand I might drop back around and see if he'll be more tempted to let her go .....:D.......

guy came, looked, left deposit of 75e and never returned inspite of calls, emails etc... - that was about 3 years ago....

Still have the 75 in cup in the press, the minute I spent it, I'm sure the ****er will turn up....

    Hi John.

I agree with you on the whole line, we all experience that type of situations. But I think, that usually depends on the type of car you are selling...
For example, I advertised my Mercedes-Benz S124 E220T in October 2008 (as far as I remember), I got a call and an offer from a guy over the phone, but then I changed my mind and decided to keep my Baby. Last week I found that I simply have too many cars on my driveway, so I contacted the same guy asking for his interest, etc. He still haven't found any good one (124T) since, so... cutting the long story short - my Baby changed the Family without any problem or hesitation and the new owner is really happy.

    Best Regards,
    Peter

Idea: as part of your next car sale - you have to post a pic of the buyer....and scones. (crumbs, if eaten...). Prize to be determined..........consider it the '42' of the car-selling world....:D :D

I might be willing to provide a few scones if i'm allowed to call to someone to drive their car's.
Haven't driven many classics, plan is to have 2 or 3 when the €€€'s magically land in my bank account.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

4 Scones, complete with jam AND cream. Very good condition €3000. Comes with free Ford Taunus.

As a self confessed tyre kicker - be honest we have all done it !

We have all driven too far, in the worst weather to see a "Mint Condition" show winner.

Only to be rewarded with a quick fumble under some soggy "original" car mats.
Boared to tears by the owners dodgy stories of his Great Granda's dream of having one of these cars, while you search for a part of the bodywork that actually attracts a magnet.

The only show category that the car could win being the "Daily Use Chicken Coop" class.

The minimum reward for such dedication to past auto history and I stress "Minimum" is a cup of coffee and a scone or maybe even two.

Then again probably serves me right for having an obsession with old VW's
