Dell XPS 430 known issues

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering if there is a known issue with the XPS430's?

I just spent an hour on the phone to India - nice guys to be fair (Sanhish & Saresh). What happened was the 430 just shut down whilst on youtube. When it was turned on again lots of fan noise but no beeps or info to the monitor.

The lads wanted me to reset the graphics card but I could not remove the cover, next was the 4 sticks of ram but as they were blocked by lots of cables I was not going to insert my large hands and 'reef' them out!:D

Despite having next day on site - I agreed on the phone to a collect and return - in hindsight maybe I should have demanded an onsite visit. TBF though it is probably better getting fixed in a proper diagnostic environment?

For the record it is an XPS 430 with 8gig ram, 64bit os, 1.2tb (2x640 raid 0), 1gig graphics card, blu-ray and normal dvd. We got two at the time - one still working!

Just wondering if my new best friends Sanhish and Saresh are on the money in thinking either the graphics card or motherboard are fried?

Anyone know anyone with a 430 either trouble free or not?

Dell aren't too bad on the reliability are they?

    Thanks guys!

Sounds like the mobo may have left this mortal coil judging from lack of POST - seems like the most common way of a comp saying goodbye  Not familiar with any specific issue with the XPS430 myself, some mobos just blow I'm afraid. Law of averages :( See what onsite support has to say but if it was the PCIe not being correctly seated the machine would probably merrily spaz out beeping and most other non- or semi-fatal things would give some kind of screen output.

    Cheers Solitaire.

I agree about the mobo - when you turn it on nada just massive over-running of the fans, not a single beep and nothing on the monitor which is working fine.

I just had to check up what PCI Express was but agree if just one component was knackered then there would be information and or more noise!

    Thanks again!

Just an update - was collected and came back yesteday and they changed the MOBO and graphics card.

Touch wood all good now. All in all a fairly hassle free experience.

second computer had same specs except it had a dell excellerator attatched to tuner it was also 420 with same probs

third computer same probs 430 with ati radeon 3650(nice that they downgrade video card huh),ati 650 theater pro, intel core 2 extreme x9650,4 gb dual channel ddr3.2 750 gb raid drives equal 1 and half terabite,19 in dell media card reader with bluetooth, dell wireless bluetooth keyboard combo and mouse(still have logitech mouse keey board broke),blueray combo(same),excellerator gone, now have swith to regular burner, and 2 750 hard drives non raid, power supply is now 425 (still not high enough)
