need help with my Cubase

I have a dell studio 54 desktop pc with windows vista, Presonus Firebox 24 bit/96k firewire interface, and cubase LE4.

The problem i have is the there is a delay in the monitor feedback when I'm listening to the midi drum track and trying to lay down a guitar track...the drums are fine, the delay is the track I'm recording the guitar on....I'm playing and hearing what I played a second or two later.

previously I had cubase version 1.1 on my pc i used to use that had windows XP....i didn't have this problem before. This is the first project I've worked on since i got the new pc and the updated version of cubase.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I think it might be something in the settings....any help is appreciated.

    bill

    Ah the dreaded Latency .

I know nothing of Cubase but find where you can set Latency and tweak her as low as the system will allow whilst continuing to run smoothly.

    Best of Luck.

devices> device setup> vst audiobay> "your soundcard name"> control panel

you'll need to reduce your latency to record and then increase it when you want to mix.

Might also be worth trying the ASIO4ALL driver to see if you can get better results.

Post your buffer size and output latency settings if ya get a chance?

    the imput latency is 325.079ms
    the output latency is 46.440ms

I had problems with my the firewire driver that came with my pc so I purchased a IEEE 1394A Card that was on a recommended list that was sent to me from a Presonus techinical pupport representative.

The Driver that shows up on my device settings is:
ASIO Direct X Full Duplex Driver.

Not sure how to find the buffer size i'm using.

i have a firepod, it has direct monitoring.

can't remember what its labelled but the second last knob on the right (the lower one) controls the balance between the output from DAW and whatever is plugged into firepod. Turn off the monitoring in cubase and just use this for zero latency. start with it at 12 o'clock and move right or left till the balance is right.

however, if you update to the latest firmware from the presonus site you'll get a little icon in the system tray which lets you adjust the latency down to 2ms if needed.
ASIO Direct X Full Duplex Driver

if you click the drop down menu here you should be able to change this to just Firepod

Thanks for all of the help....I uploaded that driver ASIO4ALL v2.

that lowered the input latency to 13.084ms and the output is 13.084ms

I also set the audio priority from High to Normal

the multiprocessing was checked and I didn't need that and also the "Adjust for Record Latency" was checked and I unchecked that.

I don't have time today to record the guitar track....but i was able to play along with the drum track and the delay is gone....Thanks again for all of your suggestions.

ASIO4ALL is a good piece of software, but as mentioned above, you should be using the driver that came with your hardware. It should knock another few ms off your latency - not that it'll be overtly noticeable. But it's best to go with the manufacturers driver.
