following on from a previous thread, anyone doing this event, any one done it before, and any tips for a first timer, training, the event its self, used to cycle often (many years ago), and now most of my cycling focus' around the sligo to letterkenny cycle in july (missed it last year) so very little done lately

    :o

already been out a few times this week, short quick runs ranging between 5 and 15 miles, averaging 12 to 14 mph, idealy would like to be a few mph quicker

event its self on 21 june, 54miles.

I have ridden it a few times. Main tip is to get up early and get yourself away in the first group, regardless of what your offical start time is.
The volume of cyclists doing it is huge and as a result it can grind to a complete standstill in some of the small lanes down in Surrey. The risk of this is minimised if you can get away early.

It is a lovely ride, not too taxing with plenty of well organised rest stops. Ditchling Beacon though is a total bitch, very out of character with the rest of the route. If you are training now and keep up good progression you will have no problem. To make it more of a challenge try getting up Ditchling Beacon without getting off. The ride down the other side into Brighton will then be a great reward.

Don't know your Sligo to Letterkenny ride, but if it is the old Border Trek route in reverse you will find the London to Brighton much less challenging

have heard alot about this hill, mile or two climb, 40mph+ down the other side, will definatly be including some hill training in my regeim, although as for getting up it in one go, understand it can get quite busy with people getting off to walk

Only one mile, 1.6km, I think that is the problem given there is ~160m ascent of it. (Never been up it but have read about the cycle.)
