    Hi,
Can anyone suggest, or does anyone know of anywhere/anyone selling a really cheap box van? It must be drivable with a B license, so under 3.5tn but as physically big as possible, as long as it moves it'll do. Looking for a very cheap one, say 500 max.

There's not much in the line of commercial sales online it seems, so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it :)

At €500 and under it might move for about 2 weeks and thats it. Any van worth talking about is gonna cost you €1500 to buy. If you buy one for €500 it will cost you most of that very soon again. Vans are not cars , they work for a living. Spend as much as you can to buy and not to repair.

Have a look at gumtree.ie and donedeal.ie. There are plenty of vans for sale on these sites you might find a bargain.

That's exactly the type I want, I wont need more than 2 weeks driving in it :pac:

If you are happy with 500 for two weeks, why not rent one for a fraction of that?

Sorry, I meant I'd require it for longer than 2 weeks, but in the time I own it, I wont be driving it much at all :)

For 500 euro you would probably get a clapped out old transit thats rusting to bits and has been used as a portable shed for the last 5 years. Rent one and save yourself the hassle of breakindown or not starting ect ect.

Nah thats a myth. A €500 van is a €500 van anyhere. Brand new ones might be cheaper up there but 10 year old ones cost in and around the same if not more. Anyway Dublin to the border €20 diesel or €25 Train/bus, bit of lunch more expence driving back, converting the euro and then VRT. Thats not much left for a van , nevermind the AA membership thats gonna be needed :D

    Ford Transit:

Actually your best bet for a €500 van maybe your nearest halting site.

Have checked north/uk too and nothing really in the budget, would prefer to get an Irish one to save the hassle. I wont be driving it at all really so condition really isn't an issue. Just need a good sized box van for B license and that's it really but it's proving to be quite difficult to find :(

Cheapest I can find in the UK - looks like it's a 3.5Ton van

http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/852218 - Isuzu NPR listed on there

You do realize that a 3.5 ton van with a box body and tail lift has a very small payload? I did a Transit extended frame with a 14FT GRP body and 1/2 Ton tail lift. Weighed in at 2.5Tons so there is only 1Ton of payload.

Thanks for the links. I think the first transit is over 3.5tn though, usually if it has 4 wheels on the back axle it's more than 3.5tn. Payload isn't an issue really :) There doesn't seem to be much of a difference in price between something that's 20 and 10 years old from what I've seen. I'll give the last link a call later on, thanks again :)

    Budget now €1,500

If anyone can suggest a good place up North I could find one, and is it true changing to an Irish reg is only €50 if it's a commercial vehicle?

That's the type I'm after ;) Must be 3.5tn though so the B license is ok!

Hello, You have already stated you want a box van.

    However if it would do

My friend has an IVECO van far bigger than a transit, high cube inside.
Driving well, no test for 750 euro. in county Louth

    regards, Rugbyman

Please do Limerick Man! What kind of business was it used for?

Thanks for the links aswell and I'm afraid it needs to be a box van rugbyman and I'd prefer one that has passed the DOE :)

Might be a bit out of budget, it's just got new tyres and windscreen, had a few bob spent on it. I'll spare the details until I find out a price. Boss is in Germany till Tuesday. I'll let you know then lad.
