I know there are already threads about this but I thought I'd start a new one for 2009!! :D

I've just been qouted €482 for fully comp from Quinn - not bad, but I drive an ancient Ford Fiesta and I'm no spring chicken either :D! Approx car value is €1500 (too much in my opinion - but if someone is willing to give me that, it would be rude to refuse).

So I shopped around, got a lower quote and went back to Quinn, who, and I qoute, said: "We are not in the business of matching quotes" I kid you not. So, when I got a really good qoute off of 123.ie and rang back Quinn to cancel my policy they were like, "Oh, OK maybe we'll speak to you next year"!!!!

My new quote from 123.ie was €290 fully comp. Happy days :D:D:D

Have you had a similar experience? Don't these companies want existing customers business?

I'd much the same with FBD this year. Went up from €600 last year to €719 this year. After alot of arguing, they told me they'd do it for €700 and I was lucky to get it.

In the end I got it from One Direct for €440. AIB came a close second with a quote of €457. I told FBD and they filled me with scare stories, all of which is bull.

I have 7 years NCB, no points or nothing. The cars worth around €15k.

By and large, insurance companies pick numbers out of a hat or something similar.

Had the exact same experience with quinn. They quoted me 840 renewal which was a bit steep so i rang about and got it for 570 through a broker. I rang quinn that i had gotten a better quote and it was the usual "what do you expect me to do about it?" attitude. Told them i wouldn't be renewing after it expires but then a few days after it expired i got a letter telling me they were cancelling my policy as they didnt receive payment...you could have an entire forum just on that company...

Got my renewal from FBD for €475 fully comp on a Passat 1.8T (150BHP) up from €420 last year, best they would do was €435, told them I wouldn't pay more than last year, because car has devalued, No penalty points, another year claims free, why should I pay more!

Went with insure.ie got the lot fully comp for €320, shop around people!

I find it amazing in this current climate that these companies are not bending over backwards to keep an existing customer, they can't even be bothered their a$£€s to negotiate on a price or value a customers loyalty and would rather lose the business and hope that people don't shop around - it doesn't make sense!!!!

Two years ago, I was insured with AXA - €300 for the year.

The next year they wanted over € 400 - I aid - thanks, but no thanks.

They sent me a letter the other day, saying they would like my business back, and would I please phone them and let them quote me.

    I called them today:

Axa - that will be € 540 for the year.
Me - are you out of your mind.
Axa - Sir, no need for that language, after all, you phoned us for a quote.
Me - thanks, bye now. :D

Why would I want to pay more?
I am still driving the same car.
I do not have any penalty points.
I have not made any claims from my insurance.
My NCB is 7 years now.
