I'm just holding a L licence. Does garage sell cars to L licence holder?

Do I need to get the car insurance registered immediately when I buy the car?

As I want to drive the car home firstly and wait for 1 month to get cheaper car insurance, when I get my full licence in April?

    Thanks~

The garage will sell you a car no problem, they don't care what sort of licence you have as long as your money is good.

You will need to be insured on it to drive it home, what you do is agree the price of the car with the garage and arrange a time to pick it up. Then contact your insurance company and arrange to be insured on the car from whatever time you are picking it up onwards.

If you drive it home without being insured you'll be in a ****load of trouble if you're stopped by the police or are involved in a crash or other accident.

Yes, they'll sell them to L drivers.

And yes, if you intend to drive it home you MUST have insurance.

so, which means i can't drive it home immediately. I need to contact insurance company firstly?

I just think I can drive it home once I pay the money.

Would you not be better off waiting a month to get the vehicle then instead of it devaluing on your street?

The garage will let you drive it home immediately. The law will not.

    +1

Also, Check out insurance before you agree to buy the car. Depending on age, experience etc, you may not be able to get cover on a particular car.

So, I would wait a month, get the full licence, get quotes from insurance companies and then buy a car that you know you can get cover on.

Note: When looking for quotes, its best to say you actually own the car as if not they can refuse to quote you.

You're better off waiting as pointed out above. You need to have an insurance policy active on the car prior to driving it.

An insurance company will refund you the difference in cost once you pass your test. If you pay for one year then pass in one month's time you should get a cheque for the difference for the remaining 11 months.

You most definitely cant. You are uninsured driving it home on a public road. That is illegal. Do not do this. Should you have an accident or meet a checkpoint you sir are screwed. BIG TIME

EDIT-Just saw your reply after i posted mine. Good plan there batman. You're much safer buying your car in a month and arranging its pick up and insurance to coincide

Would be very stupid to take the risk driving home uninsured.

Bear in mind also that you *may* not pass the test so buying a car on the premise of getting cheaper insurance when you may well not is not the best idea. Best wiat until you find the outcome of the test before doing anything.

Is it ture that if I pay 1 year L licence car insurance, and when I get full licence, I will be refunded?

    I really need a car.

Is it a big risk if I drive car on road with a L licence, without a full licence holder with me?

Most insurers will refund the difference (for the remaining time only). Check with the insurer.

And the potential fines are huge if caught unaccompanied. Not as huge as being caught uninsured and unaccompanied though...

Most insurance companies will give some money back.

Getting caught without full license is €1000, so no it's not worth the risk.

If u had no arms or legs and patchs over both eyes the garage wil still sell u the car. They would probably let u drive it out the show room also.

I am sorry but what kind of question is that?
You don't know you can't drive with insurance and driving license on you...

Also don't buy a car in a garage. Not worth giving them extra free money while you can probably find the same but a lot cheaper on sale by an individual on Carzone and the likes...
Also I would not count on guaranty since many garages will be gone in the next 6 months max anyway.
Just bring a good friend that knows something about car service history and mechanic.
