Did anyone hear his comment about playing with and against Martin Johnson ?

'Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad,':confused::confused:

That's the tomato thing anyway. Still not quite sure how it relates to Johnno though..

Quite gnomic and maybe we're all over analysing it, but i reckon he may be alluding to the fact that while johnson was a great player, the coaching gig's beyond him..possibly? Who knows....anyway beats the usual press conference platitudes....

Its clearly a competition among the players as to who can say the most ridiculous thing.

He must have been given the task to fit that one in somewhere in the interview.

It's priceless and I love the look on Kideny's face too. I agree with Goose that I think the boys have something going on amongst themselves on daft quotes. I think it's great that there is a shared humour in the team and it may well be something else that Kidney is encouraging to get the squad to pull together.

The interviewers question is just as ridiculous

"Brian,You shared a sponsor with that English coach.......Whats his name.........Martin Johnson"

    How Amateurish.

EOS certainly left his mark :p

I think the question was a set up.... looking at BODs he's trying his hardest to keep a smirk off his face before the interviewer gets into his question. I think BOD knew he was about to launch into the tomato

hahaha that's gas!! He knew what he was going to say before the question was even asked! He was trying his hardest not to burst his hole laughing!! I remember the England football team did something simular for Euro 96 when they had to use quotes from cheesy songs in interviews...media soon caught wind of it and put a compelation together.

Maybe Eithnemaria is the journalist who asked the question to BOD

Fairly sure what O'Driscoll was trying to say was 'Of course I have plenty of knowledge of Johnson from touring with the Lions etc, but it's more wise to keep that to myself rather than tell an anecdote which may be hyped up/willfully misinterpreted by the press". Good awareness of mind games and how to play the media if you ask me.

If he wanted to keep what he really thought about johnson to himself , he wouldnt have blatently came out and used such a smart metaphor.
And he obviously didnt care about the press ......since he said it...and doesnt have a fear it'll be hyped up! he sumed it up in one short quote +did it well.

alright man alright i'll leave i'll leave you win but what i do say is that he is overrated simple as. so get over yourself

This seems the right spot to throw this in. 2 months ago i said this in reference to Brian O Driscoll. I'd like to swallow those words cos the man has proved his class to any doubters and i wasn't alone in my criticism in fairness to me. But i was wrong fair play to him for returning to his best and may it continue

I can't say I understand totally where your coming from. Why would he talk about Johnson's knowledge and use of his players in response to a question about his knowledge of Johnson? And why use such an unwieldy (NOT smart) metaphor? If you ask me, he was throwing the press a curveball and being clever about how he got out of a press conference without dropping any hypeable quotes. Very clever, and very Declan Kidney. But I suppose we'll never know for certain.

    Jesus,the tomatoe line means.

Knowledge is knowing a tomatoe is a fruit:
Marting Johnson is a exceptional rugby player, but not all areas of rugby are linked.

Wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad:
Just because someone is a good player, does not make them a good coach.

would not like to have been that English team after the match. Can't think of m any things scarier than a Johnno 'trying to control' himself:eek:
Except maybe an angry Johnno in a ruck with you
