Boxing clubs around cabra

    Hey,

Yes, i know there are couple of stickies for this etc. but i found them to be outdated or not that accurate.

Anyway here's my question. Would anyone know the whereabouts of any clubs that would welcome a 23 year old. (done kickboxing a while ago, and would be keen to get into boxing now - would still consider myself a novice).

I don't own a car so would be looking for something not that far away (phibsborough or arbour hill would still be nice)

Tried to visit a few places listed in IABA an could not find any of them... all the addressed listed are just some residential houses, like:

    PHIBSBORO
    Paddy Delaney
    45 Beresford St.
    Dublin 7

    ARBOUR HILL
    Ronnie Woods
    23 St Fintan Road
    Cabra
    Dublin 7

    CORINTHIANS
    Paddy Osbourne
    7 Convent View Crescent
    Ratoath Road, Cabra West
    Dublin 7
    8688138/ 086 1008367

would anyone know of EXACT address where any of these clubs are located?

    Thanks in advance

I do believe they, like most other clubs, open at 7 pm for evening training.
I used to train there a fair bit and from memory, Friday evening was
a night they trained. Sunday morning at 11 am is another popular time and Saviours did train at that time.

I haven't a contact number for them; but 11850 should do the trick.

    Keep me posted

Cool, i'll try to pop on Tuesday or thursday at 7 to check if i'll be welcome at all.
By the way, just wondering how come it's only open 3 times a week and such (most of he clubs i check are like this). I would be willing to train bit more seriously, like 5-6 times a week.

Are there any places that offer this?

By the way any of you know the location of arbour hill bc?
Would they be training in the same spot as muay thai guys here: http://www.bridgestonemuaythai.com/contactus.html

would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on it.

Im not sure how to get there but i dont think they train in the same place at all..

i'd say saviours may train more regular than 3 times a week during the season but might be wrong!

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

Hey Antanas, no they dont use the same facilities the Boxing Club is up beside the prison, if you kno here that is its just beside it, they have a kind of notice board up outside.

There is also a more recent club thats after opening on Brunsiwick street, Cant remember the name of it but Im nearly sure they have a beginners class on a thursday evening....

    Hope this helps.

    Great Keep us posted!!

Been to the club on Thursday and well not sure that was what i expected. The guided beginners class pretty much is only for 10-14 year olds, and the guys like me kinda have to think of their own routine. Thats were the confusion starts.. I pretty much have only a basic knowledge of what the training should look like, mainly some anaerobic 3 minute burst training that kinda represent the round and so fort with heavy bag and so on, but either than that and doing aerobic activities on my own time i'm clueless.

So here's my question: Should i expect this type of workout at all clubs when it comes to training at 23 y.o? Ideally i would be looking for at least some basic guidance in combos numbers, stance and so forth so that i could practice and work on it on my own time to get it nailed.
Do you guys know of any clubs with i guess you can call it more involved and guided training sessions, or thats the way it is everywhere?

by the way there's no "adult" beginners apart myself so i guess thats part of the problem.

Seen an ad in the paper about Igor Khmil's boxing club in smithfield, is that any good when it comes to begginers?

Thanks for the input in advance

If it's a club (Arbour hill being one I think), and NOT a gym, then the boxers will come first and you
may simply be left idle. That's why the club is so important; they
must ensure that the boxers are taken care of first.

You being 23 is probaly seen as a guy not really worth
spending time on. That's the honest answer.

The younger ones are the future and will hopefully
be competing and that is why they will get the time

    Regards
