Great game, its amazing how much performance they get out of the de, even today. In true gta style I've found myself getting distracted from the missions by all the side stuff like drug-dealing, so addictive.

Wonder how the couple of posters here got to play GTA CW so fast after it's US release?
How many people had played it?
    Was it three people R4???

Absolutely stunning game and I'm buying it first thing Friday (yes...buying!)
This one needs to be a best seller if we're to have a chance of getting an even better sequel but as it is, this is the best game on DS by far!

    (love that chainsaw :) )

Seeing vids of it running, it certainly looks fantastic, I thought it was going to be a rerun of the PS games, can't wait to play it.
It's been a while since a DS game has grabbed my attention like this, and it'll be nice to play something other than Solitare and Picross on it.
Of course, until I get my DSi, to replace my broken DSlite, I will have to make do playing it on my sons DS Phat, ah well

you've got to hand it to Rocktar Leeds, they are an extremely talented team. Their max payne GBA port was a technical marvel. Somebody needs to give these guys a bigger budget.

They have turned around and made a game that should, by rights, not be capable of running on a DS.
I mean, even the PSP titles aren't as good as this, I reckon.
The only other game to come close to surprising me like this is TrackmaniaDS, another triumph over what is said can and can't be done on the little handheld.

Eurogamer gave it 10/10. Seems be well received by all the other reviewers. I have a lot of games to play at the moment so i ordered my copy from play.com. Only 23 euro.

Bloody fantastic game, highly addictive too, scratch cards FTW!

Can't wait to get it tomorrow. The first DS game I'm buying the day it's released.

One sad thought, though, for all you GTA heads. It's the first GTA game since GTA2 to not have a picture of a helicopter in the top left-hand corner :D

At this stage I've put more consecutive hours into this game than any other DS title, brilliant stuff, and only 20% completed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭DigiJem

Brilliant game, got it on Friday and haven't stop playing it. Too busy making money from drug-dealing to progress very far with the missions.

I started playing this last night...and then was blown away by one little thing -

The drug dealing aspect of it is a reworking of the old text based classic drugwars/dopewars. Which stragely enough I've been playing a DS homebrew game of quite a lot recently.

I have found my new addiction.

Probably the only good thing that comes out of a long commute to work.

I've played so many DS games from start to finish on the bus. Best not to think about actually..!

How does it compare to the PSP games?

The reviews are very positive for the DS game. Mostly because it contains a lot more just for fun elements than the PSP game IMO.

I played the PSP games and saw a video of this one and TBH, it looks more fun.

More arcade and just mad than the PSP ones which were faithful conversions from the console versions.

You have more options to escape the police in the DS game for example.

Really good game this, when i heard they were making a GTA on the DS, my first thought was that it was gonna be terrible. How wrong i was, it's actually one of the better GTA games, period.

Well done Rockstar Leeds! keep em coming...

Gonna have to buy my own DS cos i keep robbing my girlfriends one so i can play it at work, she's not amused :)

They're too different to many any kind of comparison really.

Personally I'm enjoying the DS version a lot more. Probably because I'm sick of the GTA3 engine at this point. It's impressive to see on the PSP and the games are good...just very meh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,221 ✭✭✭RichyX

    Very impressed too.
I had my doubts it would capture the feel of previous GTA's, but they've nailed it.
The focus seems to be quite heavy on the dealing aspect, which can be a bit tedious.
Still, all in all it's quite an achievement.

I'm too lazy to look up Game FAQ's, but anyone know what those little whirlwind looking yokes are?

The blue swirly thing down by the docks? Yeah I was wondering what that was too...

There are quite a few of them throughout the city.

I love hijacking the trucks :D

The blue swirlie things are the possible positions for Lion statues (Lions Of Fo) after you finish the main story. If you find the statues, it unlocks extra story missions (you have to be registered with the Rockstar Social Club for GTACW for it to work - find the lions, sync your stats over wifi, and the missions will unlock).

Picked this up today, game runs remarkably smoothly for a DS game. Handling of the cars through me a bit at first but quickly adjusted. Seems a like a lot of fun, and looking forward to the many long commuting hours spent drug dealing :pac:

Totally addictive great game! Think am coming to the end now though seems like a pretty short game.

Them swirrly things are also possible places where you start off in multiplayer.

The only thing that would annoy me about this game is that top screen GPS and Health aren't the default. You really need to have them up there to do well.

    'part from that, love it!

Bought it the other week and only started playing it this weekend...I love it and the DS format is great with the touch screen stuff. Highly recommend it.

Bought this for £27.91 (€30 approx) in ASDA in Enniskillen looking forward to playing it this week.

Going to Belgium this week, its a good few hours each way between all the busses, flight and sitting around in airports, GTA is going to be keeping me company, I'm really looking forward to it.

bought a ds lite last week to play this and delighted with just how well it works and feels like the other versions

p.s. does anybody who cleared the game know how long it took by any chance?(interested to see how long the campaign is compared to previous titles in the series)

I am loving this however I'm at a mission which requires targeting and my R trigger is bust ... actually Internet said to blow on it to get rid of dust and it seems to have worked  are Nintendo harking back to the old NES and SNES days?

I think I'm close-ish to the end but not sure.

Strangely enough, my own R button is on the fritz and I've only noticed because of R targeting in this game.

Just finished the story portion of the game, have completed very few other tasks bar a few blown up cameras, a rampage here & there & some random missions, still only 54% complete. The drug dealing dope wars portion of the game alone will keep me playing for some time to come.

Stupid question probably, but how the hell do ya deal drugs? (In the game obviously):o

Well there is an early mission that acts as a tutorial, but basically you drive around 'til you find a blue dot on the map. Go to the dot and it is likely to be a dealer. Each area has a different mob running the show, and each mob has different drugs they want to buy or sell (so say one may sell coke cheaply and buy heroin for more than its worth, but may rip you off on acid :pac:). So you buy what you want, and then find another dealer around the city who will buy your stash for the most amount of money. Goal is to make as much profit as possible, while avoiding the occasional bust that goes down.

I love it as a minigame. Very addictive - I keep getting distracted by the new dealer tips and rarely have a chance to do the story missions as a result. But I do have a ridiculously large bank balance (I refuse to spend it!).

I wish there was more to spend your profits on.
All I've really found for sale are safe houses, weapons and scratchcards.

Completed it a few nights ago but I'm not getting any great urges to go back...

Yeah true. I don't find the scratch cards as compulsive after I won that nice fancy apartment. And don't see the point in having too many safe houses.

have put 4 r 5 hours into this and am a bit disappointed tbh. the execution and presentations is flawless but I find he controls somewhat finicky and the missions are often less than engaging if not downright dull.

It will get another 4 or 5 hours this week but either way I expect to trade it before the week is out and long before completion.

my number one gripe is getting chased by the squad cars. it's just tedious and annoying.

You must have loved the other GTA's!
It's quite easy to write off the police vehicles and lose your wanted level.
If they're coming up behind you swerve towards a wall or just keep to the side of the road. They'll often crash into roadside objects.
